2-year-old being held hostage by barricaded Gwinnett gunman

Gwinnett Police and SWAT units are responding to a barricaded gunman call, according to a police spokesperson.

Witnesses reported seeing heavy police activity in the area of Beyers Landing Drive in Buford around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Wednesday morning police confirmed a two-year-old boy is inside with house with the gunman and classified the incident as a hostage situation. Several people were allowed to leave the home but the child is still inside with the gunman.

Cpl. Deon Washington with Gwinnett County Police confirmed that authorities were on the scene, but was unable to provide further information. It is unclear what started the standoff, but witnesses did not report hearing any shots fired. Police still had the community blocked off as recently as 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
