I don't think a Cruise Ship represents real life at all. The point is that only certain kind of people are enjoying this kind of vacations. And usually anybody who is on the ship thinks about having a romantic encounter of some kind. Cruise Ships are made for this particular reason - a romantic vacation.

I worked on a cruise ship for 4 years and what the OP says is 100% true. I tried to get in a relationship with a few chicks until I found out they were shallow, unfaithful whores. This does mirror society to some extent but it is only magnified on a ship because it is so isolated.
