American arrested in North Korea for 'hostile government act'

North Korea said today it had arrested an American student for allegedly committing a 'hostile act' which was 'manipulated by the U.S. government'.

Kim Jong Un's state-run KCNA news agency said Otto Frederick Warmbier, a Virginia university student, entered North Korea with an 'aim to destroy the country's unity'.

It said Warmbier allegedly plotted to undermine the North's system and has links to the U.S. government, but did not elaborate.

News of the arrest comes as Washington stepped up pressure on world leaders to impose further sanctions on North Korea over Pyongyang's nuclear bomb test two weeks ago.
