RED ALERT! Mystery Illness In Indiana Prison - 1 Dead, 4 Critical - UPDATE: It's H1N1 Swine Flu!

Ok, I'm in Indiana and saw this on the local news yesterday and posted about it in the giganto Ebola thread but it seems no one is around.

There's a mystery illness "flu" in an Indiana prison. One inmate has died, at least one is on a ventilator, 4 in critical condition (up from 1 yesterday!) and up to 25 others under watch currently.

Inmate dies after viral outbreak at Putnamville Correctional Facility

One inmate at Putnamville Correctional Facility has died after a viral outbreak at the prison.

The superintendent of the prison says 18 patients began to show flu or pneumonia-like symptoms at the beginning of last week.

Nine were sent to Terre Haute Regional Hospital after their symptoms got worse. One of those patients died last Friday. Another is on a ventilator.

Offender at Putnamville Correctional dies from flu-like symptoms

PUTNAMVILLE, Ind. (January 24, 2016)–An offender at the Putnamville Correctional Facility has died after being diagnosed with rapidly progressive flu-like symptoms.

Indiana Correction officials say they are dealing with an outbreak of patients with progressive viral like symptoms with several patients progressing to severe shortness of breath and pneumonia like symptoms.

The inmates who were placed under observation showed a variety of flu or pneumonia-like symptoms, including fatigue, joint aches, sweats, cough and sore throat. Those in the hospital are receiving specialty consultation and supportive care. One man is on a ventilator for support.

Health officials scramble to pinpoint mystery illness at Putnamville prison

PUTNAMVILLE, Ind. -
A deadly mystery illness at a state prison is putting inmates and employees at risk.

One inmate has died and 25 others are now under watch at the Putnamville Correctional Facility as Indiana state health officials and the Centers for Disease Control try to figure out what's making people sick.

In an update Monday afternoon, the Department of Correction revealed at least four inmates are now in critical condition. Officials still don't know the source of the quickly spreading illness. All they can say is that it presents with flu and pneumonia like symptoms, including shortness of breath.
