Federal health officials are helping their Indiana counterparts investigate flu-like illnesses at a state prison that have killed 1 inmate and left several others hospitalized

GREENCASTLE, Indiana — Federal health officials are helping their Indiana counterparts investigate flu-like illnesses at a state prison that have killed one inmate and left several others hospitalized.

State Department of Health spokeswoman Jennifer O'Malley says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will perform specialized testing to support the state agency's testing of specimens collected from the ailing inmates.

Depends how much they save using prison labor, which is practically free. Gas is cheap. The guards are on the clock anyway.

Something I had not thought of that was just pointed out to me here. Is the idea of a prison transfer.

Wouldnt have been the same prisoners...putnamville is 3 hours from those birds
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71049492

That is what I said . However since this is a conspiracy site I may as well look at things from that view. Someone here at my house said what about an inmate transfer. But I will go another step. Yes there are closer inmates. But what if this is related and was done as a test? And the people doing this didn't want two and two to make four so used guinea pigs errmm I mean inmates from three hours away because it would throw people off that would think logic says one would use local inmates .
My daughter says the bird flu thing is just for artificial inflation.

Wow! That is brilliant and terrifying LOL
 Quoting: scorpio66

Well if we are going to post on a conspiracy site we might as well go all out.

It would not be the first time prisoners in that area had been used for testing. This link is to the prison Timothy McVeigh was kept.

I've been sick since last Thursday and it's not going away. I'm in bed right now burning up. My doc gave me a Z-pak,cough medicine and a refill of albueterol. I've always had asthma but this feels different. I'm outside of Philadelphia.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 67990893

We had an awful flu in our home throughout December but not with high fever and thankfully not the prison flu!

Hope you feel better soon.
 Quoting: scorpio66

Thank you. How long did it take for everyone to be over it? I've got a 4 yr old and a 4 month old that I'm concerned about. This has been the worst I've had and is spreading fast at the office. I should stop reading threads on sickness I think.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 67990893

The toddler in our home had it the longest, about 4 and a half weeks. Her symptoms kept changing a lot so it was hard to pinpoint what exactly was going on, we assume viral. Then about a week after she had it, the rest of us got a cold/flu that would not let go. Extreme sore throat, low grade fever that came and went, no energy, runny nose off and on, etc. It would get worse and the fever would spike a bit and then it would settle down and you'd think you were in the clear and then BOOM it would get you again. Awful. Right through the holidays, too.

Ummmmmmmmmmmm

They used prisoners to kill those 400,000 birds?! I don't know if from this same prison or not but...

snips:

INDIANAPOLIS—Animal health officials investigating a bird flu outbreak in southwest Indiana have ordered 156,000 chickens at one of 10 affected commercial poultry farms to be euthanized, raising the total number of birds to be killed above 400,000.

State and federal workers, low-level prison inmates and workers at the farms have been euthanizing more than 245,000 turkeys—plus the chickens—to prevent the virus’ spread.

 Quoting: scorpio66

I'm unable to find information as to whether or not inmates from this prison were used in the bird culling. Maybe someone is better at researching this...
 Quoting: scorpio66

The date sure fits. We'd better hope that bird flu did not jump from birds to humans. That would be, um, really bad.

Man hit by car after stripping naked, walking into traffic on I-465 (Indianapolis)

Investigators believe the man stopped his car on the right shoulder of southbound I-465 for an unknown reason.

He then began walking and “leaving a trail of his clothes behind him on the ground,” ISP said in a media release.

Witnesses told troopers the man “repeatedly flailed his arms and threw himself against the concrete wall along the interstate.”

Monday, January 25, 2016

PUTNAMVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A coroner says preliminary autopsy results on an inmate at an Indiana prison that’s facing an outbreak of a severe, flu-like illness suggest that man died of pneumonia.

Vigo County Coroner Dr. Susan Amos said Monday the official cause of death of the Putnamville Correctional Facility inmate has not been determined and test results are pending.

Amos says those tests will determine if the inmate had viral or bacterial infections... [link to www.washingtontimes.com]

Oh, hmm. Guess we have to see what the tests say. Pneumonia would be better than a flu, wouldn't it?

Re: RED ALERT! Mystery Illness In Indiana Prison - 1 Dead, 4 Critical - UPDATE: It's H1N1 Swine Flu!
Related?

Indianapolis, April 13 - H2N2, the deadliest strain of influenza since 1957, made it to the state lab on the Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis campus.

With no warnings of its grave danger, it arrived with other vials of mystery germs as part of a proficiency test to see how well the state lab performed.

But before local workers could test the panels, a Canadian lab made the frightening connection. This strain was responsible for the Asian flu that killed a million people.

The state received one of 3,700 panels sent out worldwide.

Andy Zirkle with the Indiana Department of Health says, "The kits were never actually opened up as it never got to the point of being handled to that extent."

The World Health Organization put out global warnings to destroy the virus.

Zirkle says state workers used an autoclave sterilization process. "Basically it works like a pressure cooker, where a combination of steam and heat sterilizes the sample and then from there the sample was incinerated."

Health experts across the state and globe question how the hot virus ended up as part of the test samples.

Although they say the potential risk for infection is low, there's plenty reason to take such extreme precaution.

State Epidemiologist Robert Teclaw explains, "because it hasn't been circulating since 1968, no one really has much immunity against it. So it could cause some damage if it were to get into the population."

Me and hubby, it was on and off, some days good others not so good and weird varying symptoms. Mostly, feeling really tired for no reason. Only way we knew it was flu was really sore throat and daughters symptoms.

First place they find test subjects for new flu vaccines or other types of drugs. Hope they have not been up to it again. Of course with a prisoner, they will volunteer for a lot to get extra things. It still is not right.

The going thing around here is a shot and suddenly people are coming down with diabetes, they never had it before the flu like symptoms and as shot for some type of antibiotic. But antibiotic are not worth crap for viruses. Flu is a virus. Bacterial infection yes, viruses no.

Shot, diabetes after with no history of diabetes before, amazing.

I do not even know if this story about the prison is real or a movie or something else, with the Title as written I would have doubts.

I was sick all of December. I never get sick hardly. And when I do I eat garlic and it's gone rapidly. Like 1-2 days gone. This December it never ended. It seemed like it had, then it came back. Did that three times. Started off like cold, then sinus infection, then flu symptoms. I'm dealing with sinus issues now, but it's where I'm at. This house I'm at is dirty. I'm hoping that's why sinus infection is back. :/

Have a kid who has had a fever for 5 days. Two different docs say viral infection and won't prescribe antibiotics.. Thermometer barely budges from 101.something. Occasionally spikes to 103.

Never seen anything like it. Fevers typically only ever last for appx. 2 days with this kid.

Lethargy, ashen color, blue tinted nails. Phlegm and a slight cough. Fortunately we have albuterol on hand to give just in case but docs haveaactually prescribed NOTHING this go around.

It's totally bizarre to us. The kid has never been sick like this before, none of us have.

Oh yeah - flu and strep swabs came back negative.
