It is an invitation to famine. The Irish only planted one or two varieties of potato back in the 1800s. If there were enough natural variety in the kinds planted, the whole country wouldn't have been wiped out. The disease that attacks the most commonly planted form of wheat is out there and, for the moment, controlled. |
