advice on selling off copper pennies?
I'm thinking about selling some of my copper pennies I got here at home....could use the extra cash that would come from them. anyone got any advice on how to get most of out em, where I could exchange em, etc etc? I've never done it so thought I'd ask for anyone who might know, any advice would be appreciated.

You could burn them down to copper if it wasn't a federal crime. Otherwise maybe spend them or take them to a bank.

shit, it really has.....it was about 2 to 1 at one time when I started collecting (I don't have a ton per se but have a mint container/jar full of em basically to the brim), now I see it's dipped to like 1.3 to 1.....maybe I should wait to see if it goes back up.

I wouldn't have much use for that anyway. I was thinking to exchange em outright though hate to put the time spent collecting em for nothing in effect. but I may think about it.

Here is something I give to you all....create a sorting machine for pennies. Take a picture of each one and kick it out if it is rare. You could sort through 100,000 pennies and only get one rare one but it will still pay for breakfast.

non ferrous metals are way down.. With that said, it is ILLEGAL to melt down your copper pennies to make more on the copper market with them. Just saying....

We have extreme lows right now and they are not worth crap. I also don't see things getting better. If you ave to ask publicly what to do with them. Then use them as your 1 cent coin.

I wouldn't be melting them or anything just selling them as they are for hopefully more than face value. I know we're at extreme lows though now from when I last checked, glad someone clued me in on that, didn't realize how far it fell. I may just search through what I got at some point as others have suggested and see what I could find of value in individual pennies, may get more from that than from all of em...(and could miss a big pay for one if I sold em all conversely as well), and then exchange the rest as they are but guess we'll see. Least I got that extra cash to play with in any case at least, so there's that side in the short term I suppose.

Re: advice on selling off copper pennies?
Copper pennies, 1982 and before, go about 100 per lb. There was a time about a year ago it was over 3 dollars a lb, which would have put them 3 to 1. Now, it is back down to just over a dollar a lb.

I suggest hold on to them and keep collecting. Just imagine if someone did that with the silver back in 1964. The gain would have been a nice increase for retirement.

I had one of those quarters in some change for a coffee a few months ago. You could recognize it immediately by the clinking sound against another quarter because of the silver.

Your wwheat pennies of course are worth more than a 1 cent piece. So yes, take a look through. If you are like me and never spend your change, instead store it. Look through the others, maybe you have a 3 leg buffalo misprint and will get around 1300.00 for it. Not sure of the price the last few years, but still up there.
