Quoting: Anonymous Coward 50759508 we are living in caitlyn jenner times. when i was a kid barbie was for the girls. star wars and gi-joe was for boys... when i was a kid , most women had barbie doll figures. today most women have ken "dad' bodies. i wonder if they are making barbie with an extra 200 lbs. User ID: 71260771 United States 01/30/2016 09:15 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I find this such bullshit. I got my first Barbie in 1959 or 1960. I played with Barbie, Ken and all the friends until I was about 11-12. NEVER ONCE did I think I had to have a body like her, and neither did any of the girls I played dolls with either. It never came up, EVER. What playing with Barbie was about was she was an adult doll. She was grownup, and it was all about pretending to be grownup. No more Betsy-Wetsy baby doll shit, and it was awesome. NBC did a short bit this morning on the new dolls and one question was "Are these dolls more for the grownups or the kids?" I'm leaning towards the grownups. And, what if some Mom thinks she's doing a good thing by buying her daughter 'chunky' Barbie because her daughter is chunky? I know as a kid that would have depressed the shit out of me. lol Way more than Barbie, what gives kids a bad self image the most is what their peers say about their nose, clothes, weight, hair, parents, etc. My two cents. |

I agree. Kids playing make believe, using dolls or not, are usually acting out what they'll be like as teens or adults. They are pretending it's the future. To have a fat doll would mean you'll be fat in the future too, which would be depressing. Make believe is all about fantasy. And when you have a fantasy, it is usually a better picture of yourself than you are now. Let girls pretend they'll be a super model someday. It's fun to pretend. No one wants to imagine they'll be a fat hog someday, married to beer belly Ken. |

Quoting: Mr Anti- PC this is beyond ridiculous. soon the transgendered ken doll will be out. ----- After 57 years as a tall, leggy blonde, Barbie just underwent her most dramatic beauty transformation ever by getting not one, but three new bodies. Mattel unveiled petite, tall and curvy versions of its iconic doll on Thursday, saying that they "represent a line that is more reflective of the world girls see around them.“ Indeed, with seven skin tones, 22 eye colours and 24 different hairstyles available for each body type, children have more options than ever before when it comes to what their Barbie dolls look like. -- [link to ca.style.yahoo.com (secure)] Negro Lesbian Basket-Case Barbie, FTW! |
