Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7108100 I actually tried a couple of name brand crank flashlight and they were junk. If you can find a good one then that's great. I currently have an ongoing supply of "Dead" (actually half used) alkaline D cells from a local manufacturing company. They use D cells in a couple of pieces of equipment as well as the automatic paper towel dispensers in all the restrooms. I understand from my friend who works there that they are charged a fee to dispose of them properly. So we are being green by completely depleting these batteries instead of buying new ones and also saving this company money. I believe the towel dispensers are the reason why so many of the batteries I get test at 1.1 to 1.4 volts. I assume the motor that turns the great big roll of towels draws a lot of current. So I have probably over 50 d cells that still run a flashlight just fine. I bought a two pack of Eveready single D cell flashlights (model: EVEL152S). You can get these for under $5 if you shop around. They work well and I really like the click on / click off push button switch. The package says 60 hour run time. I tested it and its true. So you get over 120 hours of light for $5. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7108100 I disagree. Get a 12V solar panel with charge controller and keep a 12V car battery or two charged all the time. Wire together three of the common three cell LED flashlights in series and run from the car battery when needed. They won't draw much. Make sure your polarity is correct. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 77339443 United States 02/12/2020 09:52 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Camping at home makes sense. The woods are full of murdereers, even Bigfoot in't safe. At home you can gradually wean yourself off the grid. Also you cannot survive camping in the woods once the temps drop to 0F and below. Quoting: anonymous coward 76076258 You just freeze. The wolves also have a taste for preppers that keep tomato plants. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7108100 Hand crank lights/radios suck. I camp for 3 nights without draining a single rechargeable Eneloop AA battery. My Zebralight AA powered light and headlamp will run 4+ 24hr days on their 3 lumen setting. That is not even the lowest setting. They will run 13 24hr days straight on the 1 lumen setting on one single AA battery. Eneloop AA's function well in the cold too. I rep Wisconsin, and cold fucks up electronics. Know That. Cheapo hand crank gear is for armchair quarterbacks. Get Outside and test your gear. MAGA |

The above post is good, and I would like to add to it. Maha brand Powerex C9000 AA/AAA battery charger runs on 12vdc as well as 110vac. Instead of running lights directly off the 12vdc car batteries, charge your AA/AAA batteries off said car battery that is being charged from solar panels. Now you have a flashlight on your person, as you should at All Times. Plenty of camping AA/AAA flashlights, lanterns, and headlamps on the market. I highly recommend researching "Eneloop" brand NiMh rechargeable AA/AAA batteries. They offer MORE power than Alkaline batteries, and they are better in the cold too. They hold their charge for a solid year+ in storage, and can be recharged 1000 times. Almost too good to be true, but they are legit. I have been using them 6+years. They are 100% MAGA |

Sprouting is a great way to go but it is 9 to 1, as 1 lb of seed yields apx 9 lbs for most beans. Micro greens and foder is also great I feed the small animals with it. Feed store whole grains oats wheat barley and many others cheap apx $20 for 100 pounds. I have a few sets like this |
