It is not about what others think of you drinking, it is how it makes you feel. Literally. Why do you wanna feel that way? I think if you want to consider a serious committment to sobriety... You got to take a look at why. Motivation sets your stage. You gotta shine a Light on the thing~ Good luck though! I have just shy of 8 years in & I honestly don't miss it. After I got the toughest 90 days in, I felt so great, it was easy to keep going. But I wanted it! I loathed the days drinking mastered me. Peace be with you! |

Pour out any you have left. Do the same thing each and every day. You will be lost at first. wondering what to do with your sober self. Go to AA. Go to church. Go to the library. In three months or so you will have developed a new set of routines that fill the voids that you created by not drinking. Good Luck. |

It's very rare to be addicted to alcohol, and those people do exist that are chemically dependant on it, there was a recent report that solidifies this fact. Most of the time its just substance abuse that stems from character issues, the inability to control one's self. When people use the 'addict' models and tag themselves as addicts its just a scapegoat dodging the real reason....character. Listen to this, its by George Simon, a man whom I consider a genius in character issues, he considers the lack of character the crisis of our time, which I agree. [link to www.ucy.tv] |

It is a nervine, which is relaxing and sedative, rebuilds your nerves and brain, and EXCELLENT for withdrawals. If you're into alcohol in a big way, I think you may need to cut down first, before going cold turkey. When you are committed to quitting properly, have that bottle of skullcap by your side. NO MORE THAN TOTAL 20ml a day (5-10ml being a single dose.) |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 48646607 United Kingdom 02/14/2016 11:43 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I stopped - and I never thought I would. I was as addicted as you can get. How did I stop? First I had to want to. It's different things for different people. For me it was four things in one week. I noticed my hands were shaking. I found something I had done the previous evening, and had NO recollection of doing it, and that scared me. I read a story about someone who died a sad, pitiful drunk, and it reminded me of myself. And I saw in a newspaper, pictures of what alcohol does to your brain. I wanted to stop - but I couldn't! I was addicted. I felt despair. One night, I prayed, 'Please, help me!' I wasn't really expecting anything. But I woke up, and all desire to drink had gone!! I *felt* different. Physically different. I knew this was my big opportunity, and I mustn't screw it up. So to deal with the still-present psychological, habit craving, every time I felt like a drink, I told myself, 'Sure! Absolutely! Just wait 24 hours. Tonight you won't drink - but tomorrow, you bet. You can buy all you want tomorrow.' And I just kept saying that. And the wishes got less and less frequent, then stopped. You see, this made it feel like my choice, instead of, 'Nyah nyah, you can't have one, you can never drink again!', which would have felt depressing and impossible. I didn't have a drink since, that was 7 or 8 years ago. I am SO HAPPY, and now and again I see people buying alcohol and think, 'Thank God I no longer need it.' So to sum up, you have to want to stop; ask God sincerely to help; and whenever you get a habit-trigger, instead of fighting it, agree with it - yes, you will have a drink, just wait till tomorrow. And keep postponing it like that. If I could do it, believe me, you can! I'll say a prayer for you. Good luck! |

I've been clean and sober for over 12 years. And don't believe all the crap people say about it. It's worked for countless people, myself included, and it can work for you - if you really want to get sober. |

Might not work for everybody. 1) Give your life to Jesus. 2) Ask him for help. 3) Be very clear in your own mind why you want to give it up. 4) Pray. You can give up anything apart from basic requirements (food, sleep) with those steps. I gave up smoking and drinking with those steps. pray to Jesus Note - not in India, in the UK, English born and bred! lol Not in Belgium either, I hoped a change of ISP to Plusnet would sort it out, seems not. |

The answer is in you and when you are truely ready it's as simple that. Make the choice for yourself. Just stop drinking. I can humbly and with gratitude say that I have not drank for over 10 years. Best years of my life so far! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 58856436 United States 02/15/2016 12:09 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You are probably addicted to methanol. Figure out which alcohols contain no methanol or little methanol. Get yourself off that, then wein yourself off of alcohol all together. Set a plan in motion. One sober day a week, two sober days a week, drinks only on sat or sun. Then quit. After you have quit, pay attention to how much better you feel. Excercising will suck real bad at first, walking is probably your best friend, concrete is not. Walk on grass or soft footing. Walk alot. Start drinking more water, even while you drink. Get yourself into a new pattern of daily activities. Figure out what matters to you. Set some damn goals for yourself. Dont eat shit food. Write important goals on paper, put them in spots you will see them frequently. Research effects of alcohol/methanol on the body. Look for detoxing from such things. Figure out what in the hell you started drinking for in the first place, forgive yourself or whoever it is that has you griefing. Good luck, you can do it. |

No religion. Worked since 1994. I still drink. Have about 20 beers a year. Never more than two. Also. I really enjoy not being an alcoholic any more. Other stuff like a similar amount of pop and no fast food, never had any tobacco and no coffee are enjoyable too. Any use of any other addictive substance is problematic for drinkers. I even enjoy not producing paper cup and fast food garbage. ENJOY NOT BEING AN ALCOHOLIC ANYMORE !! save money |
