70+ animals a month are being euthanized in Roswell NM. In todays time, a healthy friendly dog should never have to die.

This won't change until irresponsible people stop getting puppies.

A dog is a huge commitment. If you can't afford to care for a pet properly then don't get one.

I have gone without things to make sure my dogs have what they need. They are totally dependant on us.

I treat mine like a beloved member of the family

They need a free or low cost spay/neuter program, and a program to spay feral cats. Some areas have veterinary vans that go to poor neighborhoods and perform those procedures.

For every one dog that's bred, THREE suffer lonely lives then die in miserable shelter conditions. A TRUE dog lover neuters their animal, not just breeds them "because they're cute".

Backyard breeders cost communities a fortune. I'm staying in Surprise Az for awhile and I'm friends with the animal control officer here. He delivers 21 to 25 dogs and cats to the county shelter every day, at a cost to the city of $100 per animal. Do the math on the yearly cost, for just one small suburb of one city.

I believe the "baby killing" and animal control are different issues. More people have dogs in the US than kids. I never had children (kind of regret it) but I've worked with thousands of dogs and I've owned a substantial number of them myself. I couldn't count how many human lives I've known that have been made better and more whole because of persons having cats, dogs or whatever animal they choose for companionship. I know my dogs have all done nothing but good for me, in the toughest of times, too.

Simple question OP, do you think human life is more valuable than animal life, or do you just think humans are nothing more than animals?

We have coyotes, bobcats and peccary's running all over, even up to me and my dog in the backyard. And there's also stray dogs all over.

Coyotes are wimps, they run like hell just walking toward them, day or night.
Bobcats just avoid human contact completely unless you inadvertently corner one.
Peccary's are tough if you chase or corner them, other than that they run from humans. I wouldn't want to mess with anything that eats prickly pear cactus and can ignore a mouthful of those damn spines anyway.

Coyotes only go after small unattended dogs, cats, rabbits and rats. They're great for keeping the rodent population down. but they don't want a challenge that could injure them, it's a death sentence in the pack. If injured they'll be left behind and eat last if at all.

This is mostly an urban problem and it is because people are stupid.

Spay and neuter.

Stop the bloody puppy mills, cranking them out so all the dolts who think they need a puppy but are not able to look after them properly buy them.

Still I agree with you, taking on a pet is a big commitment a way bigger commitment than tards realize.

We have that problem with so called "summer cats" in Sweden, where tardfamilies take in cats for the summer and then leave them to die in the wilderness.

It is very sad on two levels.

1. That many animals dying when there are homes available with people of a lifestyle that can maintain them.

2. The animals bodies are being burnt after death instead of the production of food from them.

Total waste of an animals life.

A lot of this is a personal responsibility thing.

Spay and neuter your pets -- if I had my way "animal shelters" would pay a bounty or whatever you want to call it to get pet owners to bring them in to be spay and neutered for free (plus they'd get paid some $$$ on top of that).

Of course that would cost $$$, but not much more than is already being wasted to house and then kill so many unwanted pets.

A lot of people just can't afford pets anymore.
