I happen to live west of I-5 (near Grants Pass Oregon) and I call BS. There is a 4500 foot mountain range (known as "The Coastal Range") between me and the Pacific Ocean. If any wave tops that, well, guess I'll believe it then. Have lived through several major quakes (Cal native), will take an earthquake any day over a tornado, hurricane, or urban violence. Actually, my major concern is wildfire... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 53518372 United States 04/17/2016 05:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If you live in the Pacific Northwest, you have probably already heard of the Cascadia Subduction Zone. It is where the Juan de Fuca plate meets the North American plate, and it stretches approximately 700 miles from northern Vancouver Island all the way down to northern California. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71665262 This subduction zone is capable of producing far more powerful earthquakes than the much more famous San Andreas fault in southern California, and scientists tell us that it is only a matter of time before another continent-killing earthquake hits this area. And when it does hit, it will be far worse than any other natural disaster that the United States has ever seen up to this point. According to CNN, “the largest earthquake in the continental United States” took place along the Cascadia Subduction Zone on January 26th, 1700, and one of the reasons why it is considered to be far more dangerous than other west coast faults is because it is also capable of producing massive tsunamis… Read More [link to www.ancient-origine.com] Cascadia Rising 2016...drill scheduled to start June 7th 9.0 magnitude simulation...Pacific Northwest |

How are the roads getting there (to the coastline)? Are they twisting and turning or relatively straight? |

Even if it were to happen, the models are way off. The coastal range will protect alot of area west of I-5 in Oregon and Washington. Seattle will be screwed from the soil it's built on, not the wave. |

I've read a great deal on the Cascadia subduction zone and it is more likely to be several smaller quakes between 7 and 8 magnitude that release pressure off the fault. Still rather be on the west coast then the east considering La Palma, that island must be holed up like swiss cheese since that last eruption, one big jolt and Florida will be wiped off the map.
