Oh, good lord! IDW, the scientist that never was, has found your thread.

This is the guy that used to throw temper tantrums and try to DDOS the forum with AOL.

Cool project.

What size battery did you use?

Looks like maybe 7-9 Ah.

How long does she run without a charge?

I turned it on last night when you asked, 13 hours later the voltmeter still reads 12.4V. Granted, I'm only mostly receiving, but at this rate it looks like it would run for 30+ hours on a single charge.

So this works making the assumption there will be other tiny pockets of people trying to contact each other.

BUT, what the premise ignores is something that goes back to early survivalism in the 1970s-80s.

1. Generation of a signal, allows you to be pinpointed.

2. You making the assumption other friendly pockets have not deteriorated into cannibalism.

3. Your making the assumption that rolling comms isn't telling people who are waiting to pick off the fat targets to get ready for the roadblock.

Radio location devices were used in WWII to track people down. They are far more sophisticated now.

Which takes us back back to early survivalism in the 1970s-80s.

The rule then was low wattage CB radios, transmitting very short distances, used only at a minimum with other known local users. Side banders were frowned upon.

Its a cool setup. But a poor option when society is over. Great for the usual disasters and earth changes crap your likely to encounter.

Like every coin it has two sides.

I like the points you make, but judicious use of something like this is viable in most scenarios. To be tracked means that you are transmitting long enough from a certain position, to be picked off from something you say means you didn't say the right thing.
