If you've not already tried, your MD might be able to contact the insurance company to request an exception. Or, if they make adderall in a sustained release version, maybe your MD could prescribe that. I think insurance companies are especially cautious about add drugs because some are prone to abuse. Not excusing their rigid stance, simply explaining one possible reason. ...Loving souls, starving trolls... |

Since it has ephedrine which is a precursor to meth & adderal it got banned for that too, like some pseudoephedrine cold remedies. The latter have a similar effect slightly. Orthomolecular Psychiatry is best approach, second Clinical Ecology but in either case besides prescribing nutraceuticals they can test for vitamin deficiencies or dependencies & give a regimine, also Cytotoxic Blood Tests are invaluable for rooting out allergies & sensitivities ala the Feingold diet. Organic food & filtered water, also Hatha Yoga by Yogi Ramacharaka, the breathing exercises will level you out some. As some mentioned, brain foods like brewer's yeast, wheat germ, lecithin, 5-http, some of the other brain needs like derived from lecithin, can't recall. Flax oil, fish oil, eat Salmon. Probably should take a good megavitamin but check rating service for brands, avoid synthetic vitamins. Get 30 min sunbathing daily for natural Vit D. Last Edited by da kat on 03/21/2016 03:36 AM |

It has been a while since I have investigated alternative treatments for ADD. Whats out there? What works? I prefer more natural methods to drugs and nootropics anyway. Quoting: Holly Merry I am 54 years old and when I was young - up into my teenage years - I had ADD. My Dad found the cure: his three inch wide leather belt. Across my ass. Across the back of my thighs. Whack. Cry. Repeat. . . until the lesson sank in. All cured! |

For this reason dont give to children or pregnant women... obviously. Some will say the nutritional benefits outway the lead content... up to you to know your sources. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 66525616 United States 03/21/2016 08:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ADHD has no scientific basis in reality and no proof it exists, nor any way to measure it or take a test for it. It's part of a long line of fake mental disorders designed to exploit you for money by rich corporations who don't care whether you live or die. Anyone can take a drug to increase concentration, but it doesn't mean anyone was ever missing the ability to concentrate to begin with. Add on unnecessary over-diagnosing to make even more money. |

If that *lesson* sank in, you were never ADD..GFY ADD is an abnormal prefrontal cortex that lacks normal inhibition and symptoms can be suppressed by most stimulants including double shot espressos. On hard days bronchaid over the pharmacy counter helps a lot. Last Edited by PureSnow on 03/21/2016 08:35 PM PureSnow |

User ID: 64528275 United States 03/21/2016 08:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ADHD is supposed to be on the autism spectrum, but as a special education teacher, the symptoms are identical to children with high anxiety caused by environmental reasons, such as problems at home, etc. I hate the Ritalin solution, but am no doctor nor pharmacist. One thing that can help these children function is to create a very calm, highly regulated home (and school) environment. Sound and light should be kept low and calming; child's activities and surroundings should be regulated, up at same time, bathed and dressed at same time, breakfast at same time, ....the child needs this regularity and familiarity to keep fear at minimum. These children often have extreme sensitivity to fabrics next to their skin, so prefer to wear soft fabrics. They often confuse sounds and lights with other senses. Keep routines low sensation, quiet, regular and no surprises. Refrain from yelling, striking, grabbing or beating these highly susceptible chldren. It will make the problem worse. Keep highly stimulating activities to a minimum; ask the teacher to allow the student a 'quiet space', especially during overly stimulating activities. Ensure the child has plenty of reasonable exercise. Maybe shorten the child's academic day if he/she is exhibiting ADD/ADHD behavior, to relieve anxiety. When issuing directives to the child, give one directive at a time not in a list. He/she will only remember the last item on the list. As the child is older, an actual list of a few items can be given to him/her and the child can cross off his duty as he performs it. |

He had a chapter about ADD and attention etc and from what I can remember he mentioned dopamine a lot and a synthetic form or supplement called L-DOPA that, I think?, can be purchased at health food stores. I am giving it some thought. I took Ritalin once, from a friend, and played guitar for 8 hours straight. And when I used the internet etc I was speed reading everything and scrolling like crazy. It works... |

I don't consider it a disease to be eradicated, but rather part of one's personality. Last Edited by PureSnow on 03/21/2016 08:37 PM PureSnow |
