I am 54 years old and when I was young - up into my teenage years - I had ADD.

ADHD is supposed to be on the autism spectrum, but as a special education teacher, the symptoms are identical to children with high anxiety caused by environmental reasons, such as problems at home, etc.

I hate the Ritalin solution, but am no doctor nor pharmacist.

One thing that can help these children function is to create a very calm, highly regulated home (and school) environment. Sound and light should be kept low and calming; child's activities and surroundings should be regulated, up at same time, bathed and dressed at same time, breakfast at same time, ....the child needs this regularity and familiarity to keep fear at minimum.

These children often have extreme sensitivity to fabrics next to their skin, so prefer to wear soft fabrics. They often confuse sounds and lights with other senses. Keep routines low sensation, quiet, regular and no surprises.

Refrain from yelling, striking, grabbing or beating these highly susceptible chldren. It will make the problem worse.

Keep highly stimulating activities to a minimum; ask the teacher to allow the student a 'quiet space', especially during overly stimulating activities.

Ensure the child has plenty of reasonable exercise. Maybe shorten the child's academic day if he/she is exhibiting ADD/ADHD behavior, to relieve anxiety.

When issuing directives to the child, give one directive at a time not in a list. He/she will only remember the last item on the list. As the child is older, an actual list of a few items can be given to him/her and the child can cross off his duty as he performs it.

The kids who were hyper kinetic had a huge improvement on amphetamine. The kids who were not hyper kinetic did poorly on amphetamine. So ADD waa observed, not made up.

Please explain what ailment you have that require taking amphetamine (which is what Adderall is).

It's clear you do not know what add is. Your ignorance is an insult to people who struggle with focusing.
Omega3 does no work as I take it. Keeping sugar out of the diet helps but is not great.

Probably working in short bursts and then taking scheduled breaks can help but that is just behavioral.

Not aware of anything else.

My behavior frightens me sometimes. Its like a fourteen year old boy on his second beer.

Usually what happens is an aggressive male ruffles my feathers and I chase him. Like an adolescent dog.

Amphetamine gives me better stop and think on that.

Thank you for openly sharing that. It sounds like a really tough combo, and I am proud of you for taking responsibility. (So many people miss that. Meds are not always an excuse. They can be tangible evidence of taking responsibility for behavior.)

Thank you for being so nice about it. It is a tough combo. I dont know whats happening to me. Maybe it is tesrosTErone without estrogen to smooth It OUT.

During a routine visit, doc once unofficially diagnosed me with depression (he suspected it). Turned out it was a temporary situation with low thyroid. Took thyroid meds for a short time, and the depression symptoms disappeared like bananas in a monkey cage. (Yes, I just made up that banana analogy, but I like it.)
