Anonymous Coward User ID: 17158310 United States 03/21/2016 08:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My cheap ass insurance will not pay for two doses of Adderal a day. It has been a while since I have investigated alternative treatments for ADD. Whats out there? What works? I prefer more natural methods to drugs and nootropics anyway. Quoting: Holly Merry I am 54 years old and when I was young - up into my teenage years - I had ADD. My Dad found the cure: his three inch wide leather belt. Across my ass. Across the back of my thighs. Whack. Cry. Repeat. . . until the lesson sank in. All cured! It's clear you do not know what add is. Your ignorance is an insult to people who struggle with focusing. Omega3 does no work as I take it. Keeping sugar out of the diet helps but is not great. Probably working in short bursts and then taking scheduled breaks can help but that is just behavioral. Not aware of anything else. |

It's a marketing gimmick to make money on healthy children. DUMB FUCK. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 66525616 Yep, the doctor who came up with it admitted it didn't exist. And that adderel is the closest thing you can find to crystal meth. One of those drugs they never could find a use for. Op...have you tried exercise or a brisk walk in the morning or night? If you feel attention deficit that means you have to much energy, exert your body and stop playing video games...I know you do... |

The kids who were not hyper kinetic did poorly on amphetamine. So ADD waa observed, not made up. |

I hate the Ritalin solution, but am no doctor nor pharmacist. One thing that can help these children function is to create a very calm, highly regulated home (and school) environment. Sound and light should be kept low and calming; child's activities and surroundings should be regulated, up at same time, bathed and dressed at same time, breakfast at same time, ....the child needs this regularity and familiarity to keep fear at minimum. These children often have extreme sensitivity to fabrics next to their skin, so prefer to wear soft fabrics. They often confuse sounds and lights with other senses. Keep routines low sensation, quiet, regular and no surprises. Refrain from yelling, striking, grabbing or beating these highly susceptible chldren. It will make the problem worse. Keep highly stimulating activities to a minimum; ask the teacher to allow the student a 'quiet space', especially during overly stimulating activities. Ensure the child has plenty of reasonable exercise. Maybe shorten the child's academic day if he/she is exhibiting ADD/ADHD behavior, to relieve anxiety. When issuing directives to the child, give one directive at a time not in a list. He/she will only remember the last item on the list. As the child is older, an actual list of a few items can be given to him/her and the child can cross off his duty as he performs it. You're talking about autism comparing it to add which does not exist. |

Not aware of anything else. You are correct, AC, and that person's post was insulting and steeped in ignorance. I'm not against corporal punishment, but what that AC describes is abuse. It might produce short-term compliance, but I guarantee it also instills unhealthy fear, resentment, and irresponsibility. No parent I've met is thrilled about medicating their kid (or themselves) to handle ADHD. Most of them fear meds and feel like it's admitting defeat, or succumbing to moral failure. They try herbs, high-protein diets, etc. I've seen a handful claim this works. But nobody around them sees the supposed difference. Meds are no cure-all, but they work in nearly every case I've seen. If one can entertain the idea that meds can sometimes help, it makes a big difference. ...Loving souls, starving trolls... |

That sounds so obvious, though, and wonder why your doc would not consider it. (Or maybe he/she has.) No idea why I remember this, but I heard black cohosh and soy can help some people with some symptoms. Not that you asked, but maybe others you know can attest whether it works.
