Hawai`i May Become First State in US To Decriminalize All Drugs

[link to www.activistpost.com]

By Claire Bernish

Following Portugal’s model, Hawai`i could become the first state in the U.S. to decriminalize all drugs — including cocaine and even heroin.

“[D]espite a longstanding policy that enforces illicit drug prohibition and imposes some of the world’s harshest penalties for drug possession and sales, illicit drug use in the United States has been increasing,” states a resolution that passed, amended by the Hawai`i House Judiciary Committee on Thursday.

Now that it’s been approved, the study’s findings will be due later this year, “no later than 20 days prior” to the convening of the legislature’s 2017 session.

According to testimony from the Legislative Reference Bureau Acting Director, Charlotte A. Carter-Yamauchi, the study will reference Portugal’s successful decriminalization with the caveat of recognizing Hawai`i’s obligation to follow federal law. But the state recognizes the numerous failures and pitfalls of the national war on drugs and its policies, beginning with passage of the Harrison Narcotics Act of 1914.

I doubt it. They can't even legalize cannibus or have a destributiom centers for medical marijuana.
The cops run the drug trade ( from what I've heard ) and the government seem to be Japanese and I've notice Japanese don't like change.

Ice is the drug of choice here in Hawaii. Probably cause it can be made without importing any cocaine or opium . They only live up to maybe 10 years or 5 .

"Chapman denied witness accounts that he appeared to be masturbating or fondling himself while sitting in a truck at the Ala Moana shopping center the evening of January 3, 2008."

"Tim Chapman, who made headlines recently for being arrested with his pants off in public, has ANOTHER shocking arrest in his past that has been hidden from fans of the show.
The ENQUIRER has learned exclusively that Tim was previously arrested and charged with indecent exposure to minors and adults. He was jailed after being observed masturbating behind a tree while watching four young women play tennis in Colorado."

Tru dat - the cops do run the drug trade here.

However the process for licensing medical distribution centers was started this year. Woody Harrelson is one of the applicants. Go Woody!

A state may pass laws so there will not be state charges filed against a possessor of drugs. This does not protect anyone from federal anti-drug law prosecution. State laws cannot trump federal laws.

The main reason people OD on illegal drugs is because it is impossible to accurately measure the dose due to it being cut with all kinds of other shit. If it was legal this wouldn't be the case, though some dumbfucks will still OD there would be a lot less accidental OD's...

Hawai`i May Become First State in US To Decriminalize All Drugs

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71891893

Hey, if people want to destroy their own lives....

Why force them into acts of armed violence to distribute or get drugs which probably would be cheaper if drugs were decriminalized?

Making it illegal makes users and distributers a dangerous liability to other people. Deadly police chases...gun violence...etc.

And putting them in jail makes it harder for them to readjust to society. Criminal records, job placement....etc

European countries like Portugal and other EU countries always makes the US look like the most lagging first world country in the world. Their criminal justice systems is decades ahead of the US.

Why?

Instead of spending money arresting and keeping drug addicts in prison, the same funds would do more good in helping people with addictions of all kinds.

Exactly, if you could spend that money treating their root causes of their addiction. PTSD from combat. Sexual abuse from their childhood.

Throwing them in jail like rubbing salt in their wounds.

Unless they are violent....

Because it would be soooo much easier for people to get that there would be sooo many more people getting hooked on drugs, kids too.

This would be a disaster, I pray it doesn't happen.
