Starting over at 50 years old! Can it be done?
I am a fifty year old male.
Cons.
My wife has left me and taking the kids with her.
I got laid off from work about 3 months ago.
I now live in my parents basement.
I am bald and 30 pounds overweight.
I feel betrayed by my wife and my government.
I feel like I am a slave working for my masters as all my recent jobs were lousy and dead-end.
Pros.
I have a college education(Bachelor`s Degree in Liberal Arts.)
I have a car.
I have a driver`s license.
I have 5k in cash.
I don`t drink or do drugs.
People in my family usually live into our mid-80`s

Is 50 years old too late for me to reinvent myself?
Any info or advice needed for me to start the journey of reinvention.

btw this my first post. I hope to become a contributing member to this community.

Easily.

Start working out now. This should spark other things that will eventually translate in to everything starting to fall in to place.

Welcome to GLP.

I agree with Bodiless, never give up. Look for people who are positive and supportive, stay away from emotional leeches and drama queens, and find something, possibly a new something, that you want to invest your time and interests in for a second career.

From your post you seem like a logical and pleasant sort of person who is realistic. Good luck to you and am looking forward to reading more of your posts.

Learn to trade stock index futures (NQ). With $5000 you could make 250-500 a day, you could also lose this amount or more, so training is very important. the cheapest and best training I have found is easyemini.com. it costs $80 for training to get started. You need a computer and internet connection. You can then practice for free and with no risk on a demo account untill you feel you are ready to trade live. This job is scaleable so you can add contracts as you get better. (it is as easy to trade 10 contracts as 1, but you need a larger aaccount. the account will build as you become more succesful.

. Make as much money as possible in the deadend jobs because it goes a long ways in a tradeing account. you goal is not to quit the job untill makeing $500/DAY IN LIVE TRADING.

You should be able to do this in 2-3 hours aday.(9am-11.30am) and work other jobs as you improve at trading. I beleive you can do this and be succesful.

I would pray to God and ask his quidence about this and if it is part of his plan for you.

OP, consider a blue collar job training such as taking classes for welding, plumbing, metal fabrication/sheet metal, cable/satelite instalation.

Something along those lines would imo make you a happy person with new jobs skills that are in high demand.

Check around local schools and research their ratings, peoples reviews and how high is their job placement rate for graduates.

Once you have done this and gotten into a new career then you can think about dating again etc.

That's my advice to you.Good luck.

This AC is totally on point. Negative people including family and friends can make you feel worse. Go to singles groups. Invest your time and energy into something you've been wanting to accomplish. The divorce rate is a joke and marraige is not the commitment it used to be. It can definitely be done. Trust in God as well. God Bless

Re: Starting over at 50 years old! Can it be done?
It sounds like you have a new lease on life. A "redo" if you will. I agree about selling everything and moving somewhere new. Your wife can put the kids on a plane to come see you or you can go visit them, just don't shun them. If she won't let you see them, have your divorce papers adjusted to say "no visit, no child support".

Moving somewhere new is like a new lease on life. Nobody knows your story so there's none of that petty judging bullshit that goes along with it. Find a new career, new hobbies, just DO NOT GET MARRIED AGAIN. I believe everyone should get married once just to see what it's like. Some people get lucky and get it right, but most do not. If you can't "do marriage" the first time, don't do it again. Just don't. You can be in a relationship without the papers.

This is all coming from a divorced, single mom.

Re: Starting over at 50 years old! Can it be done?
You know what? If you start thinking about working out, you can change your body's appearance, which will definitely set you back a few years on a mental level and probably give you a great deal of confidence. That, and your reaction to stress will be strongly reduced. If I were to start over at that age, I would definitely put effort into that area. It won't bring your hair back, but if you get into it and start enjoying the routine, you likely will become happy with where you're at.

The work etc. - you can figure that stuff out, I'm sure. But for one, I would make sure I start getting as active as possible. Drink plenty of fluids too. Once you're getting happier with yourself, join a rec team of some kind; baseball, basketball, hockey, something. Make some friends and start over!

I'm sorry to hear of your life situation; It definitely appears to be extremely stressful, but you got this.

He's right, OP. Fifty is just when people start to get the hang of life, when the kids are gone and taking care of themselves, when you have some workable skills, etc.

With the divorce and all that, say goodby to it, don't linger in self-pity, resentment and depression.

Live and learn. I tell myself that a lot more, the older I get. Too bad I did not do that earlier in life.

Sure you can re-invent yourself.

I suggest (from my experiences) you make yourself a free website with a focus on what you know best, or what you are most interested in.

There are several places that will let you do that. The one starting with Wee is the best and easiest to use. Blogspot is not so easy. Wordpress isn't as flexible.

This probably will not make you a fortune or bring great popularity, but will get you thinking on an upward curve and also it will allow you to focus on a path you might want to follow.

Heck, makes 2 or 3 of them. Then when you are in a different, better and more focused place, be open to what life brings you.

When you are not doing your website, go to the local volunteer center and sign up to volunteer. Many retired professional people volunteer their knowledge and expertise to give seniors a hand. Nothing takes you out of yourself like helping others. This may also point you in a new direction for your life.

Welcome to the party here. Always glad to see somebody new and willing to contribute.

Start Over? Why would you wanna do that??

You could consolidate all the good things you have learned in life thus far into a decisive plan to move forward in creating what you would consider a good, solid life for yourself,...And yeah,...being a frustrated, isolated fatass mad at the world ain't gonna do you no good to start with.

The world is changing right now and you are perfectly positioned to go with the flow.

"Conservatives" are about to get the shit kicked out of their archaic self-centered philosophy and will soon be flailing about helpless in a whirlwind of mass chaos. No skills and no hearts but plenty of ammo. lol
