Millitary helicopter over Walmart acting strange - Ideas?

So I roll up to my local Super Walmart today for some groceries, and I notice a hovering helicopter just to my right over the parking lot.

It was no more than 90 feet off the ground, if that. It was just clearing the treetops and power lines.

What was odd about it was that it would hover in a spot for five minutes or so, move about 100 feet, hover again, move again, and so on. It was very methodical and very deliberate. It was moving in a straight line every time it repositioned.

This wasn't the action of a search (I've seen police helicopters up close as they search an area.) Its constant hovering and repositioning suggested either photography or some sort of testing.

After I parked my car, I walked up closer to get a better look. My eyesight is terrible and it was much closer than my phone pictures (below) suggest, but I could tell that it was pained OD green with maybe some camouflage features.

It was NOT a private craft, police helicopter, or a life flight bird.

I just found the whole thing odd and slightly unnerving. Any chopper pilots or Millitary that may be able to shed some light on this?

It's easy to chalk up any weirdness lately to the upcoming RNC convention in Cleveland, but this location is a good 40 minutes from downtown. It's about 15 minutes from the airport, but not within any normal flight paths.
