SACRAMENTO -- It's a drug 80 times more potent than morphine, hundreds of times more potent than heroin, and it can instantly kill you.

The Sacramento County Division of Public Health reported street Norco tablets laced with Fentanyl is responsible for at least 12 overdoses in Sacramento County in just 48 hours.

"Now you're playing Russian Roulette you never know what you're ingesting," said Sergeant Tony Turnbull with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

Certified Addictions Specialist Jon Daily said what makes the drug so dangerous is that the high hits hard and fast. He also said unlike other drugs, the dosage is in micrograms not milligrams and people may take too much without even knowing it.

I think it's better to pop pills than dissolve brain in ethanol like they do in Russia .
This whole prescription hysteria dangerously infringe on doctor- patient pact of trust .

Since Jan. 1, the prescription painkiller fentanyl has been blamed in 58 deaths in Wayne and Washtenaw counties, according to medical examiners there.

The deaths mainly involved fentanyl in combination with other drugs, including other opiate painkillers and heroin.

In at least two cases in Washtenaw County, "experienced" drug users died from pure fentanyl, said Dr. Jeffrey Jentzen, who directs the University of Michigan Health System's Autopsy and Forensic Services division.

The division contracts with both Washtenaw and Wayne County Medical Examiner's officices. Jentzen is also the Washtenaw County medical examiner.

When prescribed by doctors and used as a skin patch or oral drug, the opiate pain reliever is often used to treat severe cancer pain or pain after surgery.

But illegally, fentanyl is added to street drugs to bulk them up, make them more potent and reduce the producer's costs. An overdose death can be very quick — a phenomenon Jentzen and others have called "die before you get high."

Several of the users have died still holding needles, he said.

You are correct..but judging by the video below ..most of the people that are doing this way are IV junkies..when it gets to the point you are shooting up..you have hit rock bottom..

New Year's Eve, my niece died 3 times from heroin laced with fentanyl. She was very lucky that they managed to save her using Narcan.

Subsequently she had an epiphany, entered re-hab, run from the dealers she ratted on while still in hospital New Years Eve and has been clean since that night.

Very dangerous to do street drugs these days.

Now that Obama's getting rid of opioids for long time chronic pain users, stories like these might be common. People will go to the black market for pain killers. A lot of them will probably get hooked on heroin. My mom is victim of this. This is her last dosage and she just found this out about 3 weeks prior to cutting her off. She's been on these things for years and she's really jacked up physically. She's doing pretty good so far, not really bad withdrawal symptoms.Been taking goody powders.

Tramadol is a weak pain killer that is efficient for minor pains and will relieve hydrocodone withdrawal.
