Thirty-two thousand years ago, a gifted child is born into a world most would consider paradise. There has not been a war or hunger for some eight thousand years. The ozone layer is four times thicker than it will be later. Genetic abnormalities are nearly nonexistent and there are no diseases. As she matures, Mona Ann Lisa—just one of a highly advanced civilization on Earth—prepares to fulfill her destiny.

Unbeknownst to Mona, a change in the political and military leadership has been ongoing for decades. Now something new is afoot. After she eventually becomes the youngest captain of the planet’s fleet of spaceships, her career blossoms as she faces challenges and threats to her civilization. Mona is the best chance the species has to survive. While she accepts her many working titles, Mona knows that Levie, her sentient artificial intelligence entity, is the true brains of the operations. As a chain of events unfolds, Mona, Levie, and others must jump into action as the health and well-being of all sentient life precariously hangs in the balance.

In this science fiction novel set thirty-two thousand years ago, a child prodigy transforms into the captain of a fleet of spaceships and embarks on a journey to save humanity.

Seemed funny to Mona Ann Lisa, though she was the youngest Captain of the Fleet by several hundreds of years, her position as the Commander of the Fleet and director of the evacuation was never challenged. The World Alliance had just allowed this to happen based on the evolving crisis. No senior Captain had objected. They just fell in line as she also directed the settlement of Ceres and managed the Aqua-forming activities.

Mona the child prodigy, led the best chance the species had to survive. While Mona accepted her many working titles she knew Levie was the true brains of the operation. Levie (short for Leviathan) was her sentient Artificial Intelligence (AI) Entity who was fully integrated into the massive MotherShip also named the Leviathan.

Mona with her cybernetic implants was fully conscious with Levie when they were connected physically for ship operations. This was done from the Captains Chair in the Command Module above the massive cargo holds of the two mile long ship. In this configuration they worked like one being not two. Thoughts, commands and actions were instantaneous between Mona and Leviathan.

This symbiotic relationship between the Captain and ship did not exist on the other MotherShips, their relationship was unique.

Volume I

The life and death of Mona Ann Lisa on the Moon, 32,000 years in the making by George B. (All rights reserved Unpublished work (c) 2016 George B.)

The script starts in China 31,800 years ago.

A middle aged professional couple just had their first child when the mother turned 350 years old. The couple tried the last three years to get pregnant but since the proud Mom only ovulates once a year their timing was a bit off because she was working on the moon base the first two years and got back to earth late each time for prime fertilization probability.

The difficulties in timing are now a thing of the past. Mona was born into what we would consider a paradise. There hadn't been a war or hunger for some 8,000 years. Opportunities for education, training, perfect health and affluence was at its peak. Each country was really a few dozen city states with the world population just below 500,000,000. The ozone layer was four times thicker than in 2016. Genetic abnormalities were almost non existent and no real diseases. (To be continued)

Mona was a beautiful child. Red hair at birth which later turned brown, reddish complexion with beautiful brown eyes, below average height but a powerful athlete. Seeing her win the Pentathlon Gold Medal at the Decagon World Games held at the old sports complex in Antarctica was a real treat for her parents. At 180 years old she was a bit younger than the other contestants so she was a surprise champion. Such skill! Her accuracy and mastery with bow and arrow while mounted on the back of an enormous flightless birds had never been seen before. (To be continued)

Mona like her contemporaries was well educated completing 100 years of schooling before establishing a life course for her first 300 years of life or first trimester. She like her parents before chose hard science and engineering as concentrations. She lived near the 33rd parallel in a city dedicated to aviation and space engineering. A city translated to mean SpaceJump. From the ground in SpaceJump City one could look up and see two of the six orbital habitats in low earth orbit. (To be continued)

Because Mona had exceptional physical as well as mental skills she had been accepted into an exclusive group of young people being groomed for the chance to pilot long range space missions to the asteroid belt beyond Mars. On one of the pre-selection excursions she was privileged to see the earth with the habitats in one view from a space platform. A sight only seen on view screens by the millions of the other earth's inhabitants. (to be continued)

Part of Mona's pre-selection ordeal was the insertion of cybernetic implants in different strategic regions of her body. The most conspicuous was in the center of her forehead where a permanent bump would forever be present. This bump was in the position of the third eye as practiced by adherents to the Hindu faith thousands of years hence. This marked Mona as an exclusive individual in a civilization without exclusive distinctions normally. She became a curiosity and minor celeb everywhere she went in public. Not wanting this attention she devised new and stylish hair styles and head attire that always covered that part of her anatomy. (To be continued)

Unknown to the career entangled Mona, a seed change in the political and military leadership had been ongoing for decades and something new was afoot. Previous cooperation between city states that had placed the six orbiting habitats in low earth orbit housing a total of a half million humans was beginning to show some early signs of fractures. The alliance once strong was being weekend by suspicion and bickering. Prior to this point in the 2nd High Human Civilization similar beliefs about human value had been nearly universal. Something had fundamentally changed. Small groups in the elite levels of the Atlantis Alliance had started to practice a form of what we would recognize as religious ceremonies. These ceremonies involved the contact and communication with what was later called Inner Spheres. Mona's culture group had no such practices. These ceremonies were exclusive and normally done in secret. It was alleged these practices culminated in an exchange of knowledge and powers for a contract of some type binding the recipient to some type of duty. (To be continued):

The elites communicating with these lower inner sphere entities turned from their normal values and felt they were superior to all other people groups. They started to become belligerent and demand the other peoples of the world succumb to their leadership. They defied the treaties to make space a weapon free zone. They went on a race to produce the most lethal advanced weapons in the history of mankind. During this time most of the Atlantis Alliance's weapons work was done in secret and off world.

Mona busy with the years of study and preparation as an elite captain and pilot of a two mile long space faring mining vessel was oblivious to activities of the Alliance as were all those outside of the inner sanctum of the Atlantis Alliance.

Mona as a pilot candidate was trained to communicate with her ship through her cybernetic implants. She was trained and enhanced to see, hear and emotionally feel her vessel. The fault detectors within the space ship would appear to Mona as a color coded signal enhanced with sound within her mind. Her consciousness was able to float virtually over the entire width and breadth of the massive ship. She was able to engage thrusters and suspend gravity within a millisecond of thought. If only she could feel that her world was in grave danger as easily as she could sense a fouled air handler. (To be Continued)

Odd Things

Story Continued.

The life and death of Mona Ann Lisa on the Moon, 32,000 years in the making by George B. (All rights reserved Unpublished work (c) 2016 George B.)

Odd things began to happened to Mona when she would mentally drift from her virtual surveys of the massive structure under her charge and care. At first it was just a bright light burst on her visual cortex like a lightening bolt or fireworks display emulating a seizure like response. She often detected a pungent odor so strong it would overwhelm her other senses. But as quick as it began it subsided . . . she recognized the odor during the excited state but lost its recognition as soon as she returned to normal. She was reluctant to approach her superiors about these experiences for fear of being suspended from her predicted track to assume the captain's position of the newest MotherShip being launched from habitat six within a few years.

Thus Mona attempted to trigger these seizures in the flight simulators in the ground school in the space training complex just outside of SpaceJump City. Since disease and mental defects were almost unheard of in her civilization any research into the biological data yielded nothing worthwhile. In fact health was so universal the medical profession, as one might call it, was little more than a repair shops for damaged parts. So Mona's research was never productive and she just accepted these experiences as normal for her and kept it to herself.

Ancient Sunset

However, one night back on earth Mona experienced a shock. While hiking with a colleague in the wilderness she had one of her mini-seizures, except this time, she experienced more than light flashes and a strong odor. She saw a vision so vivid at first she thought it real. One of the two Habitats hanging on the horizon erupted into an explosion. (To be continued)

Mona instinctively fell to the ground which was rather awkward due to the camping gear she was carrying. Her friend assumed she tripped but was never-the-less concerned by her reactions. "What is going on M?" Oh, nothing, just got my legs tangled up. Geeezzzzz what a klutz! "Yeah, I would expect better from a Gold Medal winner . . ." Just don't stand there, help me up you ass! "M . . .honey always attracts more flies than vinegar you know!" Hmmm . . . and all this time I thought you were a human, not a pesky flying pest! The normally agile Mona was still in shock over her vision and did not immediately hop back on her feet but struggled with her heavy backpack which made her center of gravity tip her back to the ground. Finally her friend relented and helped her back to her feet. "Even the indestructible 'M' needs help sometimes I guess?" I suppose, but don't think for a minute I need you for anything but an occasional pick-me-up. (To be continued)

Captain 'M' as she was now being called by her pre-selected crew members for the leviathan were practicing complex simulated approach maneuvers to imaginary asteroids in Earth orbit with the short haul supply shuttles already assigned to the future mothership. Mona never got tired of her view from 400 miles above the earth's surface. Today she had a gorgeous picture in her window of the Nile Delta an area controlled by the Atlantis Alliance. She was beginning to hear rumors of the militarization of the Alliance but had no prior historical understanding of what that could possibly mean for her future or for the future of mankind. Mona's Mom and Dad had gotten the rare opportunity to serve together at the Earth Alliance research facility on the backside of the Moon, so 'M' was not surprise when she got a joint sound and image transmission from her parents. They look a bit concerned and approached the communication like there was maybe something to hide or conceal. 'M's Mom was radiant as usual not looking the wear and tear of the 500 plus year old adventurer that she was. Her Dad was just as handsome as ever. It was what was in their eyes that disturbed 'M' not how they otherwise looked or what they said. The conversation was rather short and curt and left Mona perplexed. Immediately after the transmission ended an alert button appeared on Mona's console with an image attached. (To be continued)

When Mona saw the attached image file she decoded it and was floored at what she saw. Immediately she recognized the location of the weapon discharges and strikes. This was an immense violation of every known treaty signed by all participants in the Earth Alliance. Her studies included a year of intense study of Maritime law which had been adopted almost word for word to space governance. What the Hell WAS THIS!!!! She immediately called a close friend of hers in the Earth Space Legal Counsel's Office (ESLCO). (To be Continued)

Mona's friend answered the voice communication request. "Hey 'M' what's up? Pun intended, of course, are you over India or the Nile Delta right now?" The Nile . . . look I need some straight talk Jim, can you do that for me? "Yeah, I guess . . . you sound pissed?" You could say that . . . have you gotten wind of any weapons research and testing on the Moon? "M' . . . you know that is illegal . . . why do you ask?" Just got some rumors I want to run to ground . . . any scuttlebutt going around? "Well, I heard the Atlantis Alliance had asked for a suspension on offensive weapons testing a few years back based on some archeological findings uncovered before their request." Was it approved or denied? "Denied of course!" Thanks,Jim! I got to run. (To be continued)

Hell, what do I do now? I am sick at my stomach. I could vomit! This is bad shit for sure. Mona talks to herself a lot but now she is answering herself. Not good! Her beautiful, almost perfect world is beginning to crumble in front of her eyes and she may be one of the very few to realize it.

I know I will call Sue, she is an antiquities fellow from my days at pre-ground school that was an exchange researcher with the Atlantis Alliance. If anyone can parse out the pieces of this puzzle palace maybe she can.

Stat voice request from Leviathan Short Range Supply Shuttle to Dr of Antiquities Sue Grammar:

Sue, this is Captain Apprentice Mona Ann Lisa over India can you talk? "Yes, Hey Moan! Gotten any lately?" We will have to talk about that later. I got some serious questions about your work with the AA (Atlantis Alliance). "Shoot!" What do you know about the AA's request to lift the offensive weapon's ban? (To be continued)

"Well Moan, for one thing those AA scientists are strange to say the least. Do you know they have a system to restrict knowledge based on some policy or concept they call Motherland Security? What the hell is that? Anyway, what I can tell you is they hit a mother load of artifacts and electronic storage units/logs of some type 300 meters below the surface off the coast of ancient Mu. One of my sleeping buddies spilled the beans for an extra few hours in the sack. You know me I love to collect scientific data while relaxed and enjoying the simple pleasures of life!" OK, OK . . . Sue. . . I get the picture. . .
Anything else? "Well he did say that the artifacts were 30,000 to 50,000 thousand years old making them treasures from the first high human civilization. Said they may be able to figure out what caused the demise of that civilization given enough time. That is about it Moan."

One more question Sue, could you call your pillow talking antiquities researcher and dig further? "Like for what Moan?" Like I asked earlier . . . ask about anything that could have made the AA request the lifting of the space weapons ban? (To be Continued)

Hey George.

Any chance you can give a brief synopsis of the whole Mona Lisa / Alterwelt story.

There is too much to read for the time I have.

Would love too but I am writing it as I go . . . Don't really know where it is going. I will try as it matures a bit. Thanks for asking.

The Dive into Ancient History

The life and death of Mona Ann Lisa on the Moon, 32,000 years in the making by George B. (All rights reserved Unpublished work (c) 2016 George B.)

Mona was now on a mission she had to figure this out completely. Like any good engineer or scientist she did an inventory of what she now knew.
1. Her parents sent her the encrypted images of weapon testing from the far side of the Moon.
2. The AA had requested the lifting of the offensive weapons ban a few years before.
3. Request was denied so testing was illegal.
4. The AA had found a significant mother load of antiquities from the first high human civilization some 50,000 years old before the request.
5. The Atlantis Alliance had become more and more belligerent and secretive over the last few decades.

Mona pondered the list and decided until Dr Sue returned with more pillow talk she could do little else at the moment except wait. So Mona dove into known ancient history to fill in some of her knowledge gaps. (To be continued)

Comet Strike

Some 30,000 to 50,000 thousand years prior there was a near miss of a comet over India. Very little else was known. When Mona discovered this she decided to do more digging.

Before Mona could get updated on more ancient history Dr Sue Grammar called to brief Mona on her findings.

"Mona . . . this is Sue, hold on to your underwear! Do I have a story for you." Sure Sue . . . download the cargo. "Well my bed buddy was reluctant to talk at first but was excited to say he was coming to SpaceJump City for a conference and was anxious to SEE me! So I told him if he expected double occupancy he needed to fess up to some more questions I had. I just love the power of lust!"

Sue, Spill the beans already for goodness sakes! "Ok, Ok! Seems like the AA broke the code on the info contained in the submerged electronic logs found off the cost of Mu. They were able to locate them in the first place by using genetically enhanced dolphins and whales. Those dudes are doing some strange shit with genetics. " (To be Continued)

Sue, is that all you found out, that the AA enhanced a few sea mammals?

"Of course not! Do you think I would traded my chaste reputation for just that? Come on Moan. Let me finish!"

Shoot! The cargo is getting a bit rancid, ship it quick.

"The Ancients had a network of automated comet and asteroid deflection batteries in four different shielded locations. . . . Antarctica, Mu, Siberia and Lake Tettiecaca. One is still semi-operational. "

Good God!

"They have been back engineering the shit out of these things for several years. My bed buddy has been involved with the translation of their technical manuals for the last three years. They also found the location of several ancient submerged power stations." ( To be Continued)

Sure, Sue what else? Mona was beginning to get nauseous and felt faint. Sue, I don't know how much more I can take?

"You know all those legends about the pre-human civilizations and the wars the World Games are supposedly modeled after?"

Yes! I participated in them . . . REMEMBER.

"My bed buddy is even suspicious of the ruling elite in the AA. There are many repressive things never before witnessed within their City States. People are beginning to disappear who have criticized the regime. The professional military has been asked to take new oaths of loyalty to the central government. Free speech and open meetings have almost disappeared. People are scared Mona! Minority groups are being harassed and moved into new development zones (relocated into the territories where they have to compete for survival with the protected primitive aborigines) even though the wild megafauna are still in control."

"They are stripped of their modern weapons and left with primitive resources. They like our ancestors are easy prey. Most of these minorities are unable to cope with the coordinated attacks launched by the Alpha Predators. "

My buddy said geneticists have been rounded up to engage in a new science to turn prisoners into human robots, turning people into mindless automatons, though they be alive they are without the will or consciousness to resist any order or abuse."

Enough Sue! I don't think I can hear anymore without losing my mind! I need to think and a drink. Anything else . . . please be quick?

"Did you just compose a rhyme, Moan? Always quick with a joke. No, Only one more thing. The AA's elite now believe they are the saviors of mankind, through them, a new order will emerge."

Yeah, a new order of what, is the question? Sue, I can't thank you enough. I just need to process all this . . . do you mind if I call you after your AA bed buddy goes back to Atlantis? Keep collecting his thoughts and fears.

Mission to Ceres

The life and death of Mona Lisa on the Moon ."The Alterwelt Chronicles". . 32,000 years in the making!!!!

As Mona was ending her voice transmission with Dr Sue Grammar another transmission appeared on Mona's console. This one was from the World Space Alliance Hq. There were data and image files attached. Still stunned by her conversation with Sue she hesitated to open the new transmission fearful of what she might find.

The transmission header stated, official orders for Captain Mona Ann Lisa of the World Alliance Leviathan MotherShip. Mona was shocked because the Apprentice designation was missing! "Is this what I think it is. . . " raced through her mind.

Her hands shook as she pressed the icon that opened the transmission. First file to open was the mission designation . . . Initial Launch and Shakedown cruise of the MotherShip Leviathan. Mission statement and destination was next. Launch from Orbital Habitat Deep Space Center within two months from today, resupply mission to Ceres fuel depot. Pick up of existing mineral cargo, and crew due for rotation back to Earth. All other mission requirements will be communicated after initial launch.

The following two images were encrypted and attached. (To be Continued)

When Mona saw the Transmission

The life and death of Mona Lisa on the Moon ."The Alterwelt Chronicles". . 32,000 years in the making!!!!

When Mona saw the encrypted images she almost lost her breakfast. The first image was expected, it was the land mark on Ceres normally used to establish alignment and orbital synchrony with the enormous asteroid. However, it was the second image that shocked Mona.

It appeared to be a target grid laid over the central plane of a well known crater on the far side of the Moon. There was also another overlay in blue on some feature . . . she could only guess its purpose.

Mona immediately wondered if her parents may know something about this image

Never-the-less, Mona had to be on cloud nine, not since the Gold Medal Ceremony at the World Games had she approached such heights of accomplished recognition. At barely over 200 years of age Mona had just become the youngest official captain of an off world ship of any size or mission. If only she felt happy about this phenomenal accomplishment; however, all she could feel was nauseating apprehension. (To be Continued)
