Quoting: RodeHard Putawaywet [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] Well, Vitas is among the stars singing on this concert too - not with one of his songs though. :) As for the cultures - Russian one is several times older and far more solid. And meanwhile American has it's own worth, it's just a completely different kind. "When every one is dead the Great Game is finished. I assume the circle dances refer to the pagan celebration. I'll think about changing a title than. Well, since the last line is unreasonable even in Russian (meaning something like "we'll make the spell on the universe undone"), I'll encode this next part as soon as I'll get to my computer today. I'm not even trying to do proper poetic translation. The meaning is far more important thing IMO. "When every one is dead the Great Game is finished. The song is sang in half-lines, I've separated them with | here. Not to mention that because this concert goes through history, there are only three songs with ancient theme or language, for one of which I was able to find proper translation. Quoting: Tamonten The song is sang in half-lines, I've separated them with | here. In the green garden | little bird sang This bird has a nest, | she has children But orphan me | has no one in the world At night I was stilling children, | milked cows at day After milking cows, | I went into circle dance I was in the circle dance, | I was happily playing I look good and nice, | but poorly dressed No one marries | me because of that In my woe I'll go to monastery | to pray to God Before the icon of the saints | I'll immerse in tears Will the Lord grant me, | will I be happy? Will I be married | to a handsome young man? In the green garden | little bird sang This bird has a nest, | she has children Once again - does this translation sound right? Next part is a small narrative, introducing a next period of history: Thousand years ago Rus' appeared with her Kiev - a rival of Constantinople - on the world stage. Thousand years ago we attained both high art and high crafts - the areas in which there was no lag for the Eastern Slav culture. Churches built in the 11th century are still the architectural centers of the old cities of Eastern Slavs: St. Sophia's Cathedral in Kiev, St. Sophia's Cathedral in Novgorod, Transfiguration Cathedral in Chernigov. No later churches and buildings did overshadow those built in the 11th century. Is it comprehensible in such way? I want to preserver original phrasing as much as possible. After this narrative there is a song for which I was able to find a proper translation, so it'll be a double release next time. "When every one is dead the Great Game is finished. Not before." - Rudyard Kipling, "Kim" (1901) "But we are still alive." - Thread: "The Great Game" by Mikhail Leontyev (2007-2008) "Life before death, strength before weakness, journey before destination." - Brandon Sanderson, "The Way of Kings" "Russia is the great Christian country with rich Islamic history" - Vladimir Solovyov (Russian Jew) Quos Iupiter perdere vult, dementat.
