The various books of the Bible were written to the Kings/churches/people to whom they were written. Religion has relegated the bible as God's word and created entire religions around it through the centuries. And people eat it up because they're like children who need to be told what's right and what's wrong, even though we are born with that knowledge. Religion is the biggest sham in history. |

The various books of the Bible were written to the Kings/churches/people to whom they were written. We cannot just take what the Bible says and apply it directly to our life, because the Bible was not written to us. The various books of the Bible were written to the people to whom they were written. These people lived at different times, in different cultures, in different places, and spoke different languages, had different beliefs and values, and faced different issues and challenges. The books of the Bible were written to them; not to us." Quoting: TRUTH 71894366 More: [link to redeeminggod.com (secure)] There is much, though not nearly as much as some would claim, in the bible that applies to us, because it applies to the human condition transcending time and clime. But it is also as you cite here, and to take those specific situations that were being addressed and inflating them to universals is the source of much trouble because it ignores the context of those issues. I always marvel at the folks leaning on all the end times stuff and applying it to today, as if the writer of that stuff had us in mind. If it was about us, why write it to them that were around 2000 years ago? If it were truly as prophetic and far-seeing as folks claim, it would not have used only imagery of the technological level of that time. In this age of super-advanced weaponry and technology, the idea that Jesus is going to return riding a white horse with a sword hanging out of his mouth to declare his kingdom? Uh, yeah, that resonates with a time where all that stuff is obsolete. |

"In this age of super-advanced weaponry and technology" THAT ALONE should make your hair stand up and know that something is amiss. If the history we have been fed is true - 2,000 plus years living with candle light and fires - then the sudden appearance of electricity, electronics, "speaking" images, weaponry, airplanes, etc, should be enough to spiritually wake your butt up that something is WRONG. |
