I like background noise even if I'm not watching it. My sister called me and told me to turn on the tv. It would have been unusual for me to be asleep at that time. I am an early riser. Stating "I think I may understand" is not the same thing as demonstrating that you understand. How will I know you truly grasp my meaning if you do not provide me with some sort of sign that my message has reached fertile ground? The "sign," of course, is a well-written thoughtful reply which encapsulates your new understanding. You demonstrate you actually understand by actualizing your thoughts into words (spoken or written) which allows for recipients to acknowledge that you have "received" the original, transmitted message. Once received, the facilitator--or other participants, as the case may be--can then make the determination if you do grasp the original conveyance. Often times new content (ideas, concepts) can be created or discovered. Also, further transmissions may be necessary if erroneous or spurious interpretations are injected on the side of the recipient. |
