Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is planning a campaign stop in Manchester on Thursday to continue his focus on the economy, according to state co-chairman Steve Stepanek.

Stepanek said it is a private event, and not open to the public. He said there would be an estimated 150-200 attendees.

State GOP officials said the event will be at the old Osram Sylvania building, 655 South Willow St., at 3 p.m.

A state labor official said the focus of the event will be trade and workers.

This will be the billionaire businessman’s second trip to New Hampshire this month.

He spoke at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at St. Anselm College on June 13, and focused largely on national security in the wake of the terrorist shooting in Orlando, Fla.

"To me it just shows the importance of New Hampshire in the overall election strategy," Stepanek said in an interview.

He said Thursday's campaign event will be a continuation of the candidate’s talk on trade policy and the economy.

It will be Trump’s first visit to New Hampshire since he fired campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, a Windham resident. It comes as Trump seeks to pivot to a general election strategy with 18 days until the national convention, and woo over some more mainstream Republicans who remain hesitant to support his candidacy.

Chris Galdieri, a political science professor from St. Anselm College, said the visit signals that Trump believes New Hampshire is in play for the general election.

Trump won the New Hampshire GOP presidential primary on Feb. 9, while presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton lost to Bernie Sanders here, 37 percent to his 60 percent of the vote.

Trade is not a bad issue for Trump to focus on because it resonates with certain white, middle-class voters who see the economy leaving them behind, according to Galdieri.

A Quinnipiac University national poll released Wednesday shows Clinton with a razor-thin lead, 42 percent to 40 percent, with Trump gaining 2 points since June 1.

The poll highlights the negative favorability ratings of each. Voters surveyed responded Trump would not be a good President, 58-35 percent, and Clinton would not be a good President, 53-43 percent.

"It would be difficult to imagine a less flattering from-the-gut reaction to Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.
