Quoting: WhiteLight [link to www.kbzk.com] Wildlife officials have confirmed it was a grizzly bear that killed a 38-year-old West Glacier man on his bicycle Wednesday afternoon near Glacier National Park. The man is being identified at Brad Treat of West Glacier, a career law enforcement officer with the Flathead National Forest. The grizzly bear attack happened shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Halfmoon Lakes area near West Glacier on U.S Forest Service land. Treat was mountain biking on a trail with another male at the time of the attack. It appears they likely surprised the bear and Treat was taken off his bike by the bear. He was pronounced dead on the scene. The second rider was able to exit the area to summon help and was not injured or involved in the attack. The area has been closed by the U.S. Forest Service for public safety pending completion of the investigation. Has anyone else posted this? I live in Columbia Falls now and this morning at Montana Coffee Traders the Zip line, rafting and park service providers were stunned at how quickly and widely the US FOREST SERVICE.. shut down and closed areas of the park to ALL visitors to find the BEAR that KILLED BRAD TREAT who was mountain biking on a local (outside of the PARK) trail with a family member!! YIKES.. so now this area is OUT OF BUSINESS and on our local news a "free the bears" advocate was interviewed who stated.. geez we really shouldn't kill this bear after all they are not like cats that get that "salty" taste of blood thing going.. I SMELL A BIG FAT GOVERNMENT RAT HERE.. they have been wanting to CLOSE OFF this area to the Agenda 21 "people free corridor" for awhile .. seems they have the event to capitalize on.. AND [link to www.dailyinterlake.com] According to Columbia Falls Fire Chief Rick Hagen, the bleachers at the Sapa-Johnsrud Babe Ruth Fields caught fire around 11 p.m. on Monday. Hagen said he believed the fire was the result of children setting off fireworks in a garbage can under the bleachers. A Columbia Falls Police officer discovered the fire. Hagen said since the officer did not have a fire extinguisher, he called for a fire truck to put out the flames.
