Russian President Vladimir Putin has raised concerns over escalation of increasing shelling of areas in eastern Ukraine by Kiev forces. The point was made during a conference call between the Russian leader, his French counterpart Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Merkel. According to the Kremlin press office, Putin said “that there is no alternative to a political and diplomatic settlement of the internal Ukrainian conflict in accordance with the provisions of the Minsk package of measures." On the 8-th of July Putin in a similar call urged his Western partners to use their influence to prevent any escalation in eastern Ukraine.
