At one point, fire officials stated the fire had jumped to 2,500 acres, but that figure was later downgraded, according to Vanessa Lozano with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. It was burning on the northbound side of the freeway near Sand Canyon Road, and people were told to avoid the area in a Fire Department alert. Evacuations were in effect from Soledad Canyon to Agua Dulce Canyon Road, the Fire Department said on Twitter. At Capra Road, less than 100 people were evacuated. The brush fire was initially reported about 2:10 p.m. The high in the area was 111 degrees, with a west-southwest wind of 15 mph with gusts of up to 25 mph, according to the National Weather Service [link to ktla.com] I'm uploading more photos. It seems as if the temp has dropped 10 degrees, I suppose the smoke layer is good for something |

The sky is bizarre looking. “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” ~Seneca You can lead the Democrats to knowledge, but you can't make them think. |

I hope it all blows out to sea before the ash drops or it's going to be a mess. “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” ~Seneca You can lead the Democrats to knowledge, but you can't make them think. |

Quoting: Ziconic The sky is bizarre looking. I'm at the LA OC border along the hills. Born and raised in LA and this is a first for me. We've had smoke and even ash from a few fires but this is the first time I'm seen the basin fill with smoke. Not a bird in the sky and they usually come into the feeders at dusk. |

Quoting: Ziconic I hope it all blows out to sea before the ash drops or it's going to be a mess. I don't smell smoke either. Usually, with wildfires, there is the smell. I suppose that's a good thing for the animals. It's so dry and last report 0% contained. Being called the Sand Fire, the blaze had scorched 2,500 acres as of 8 p.m., less than six hours after it was first reported [link to ktla.com] 110 degrees forecast for tomorrow |

Not that I know of, the fire is North of Los Angeles, in Santa Clarita. So the amount of smoke and reaching South to O.C. is most unusual. |

It is a cycle in So Cal. I grew up down there. In 1968, I was living in Simi and the valley was surrounded by fire. There was no way in or out, and embers were flying everywhere. Cedar shake roofs were all the rage back then and many homes were destroyed. I can remember the smoke and the ash falling everywhere. God Bless. I've been married so long, I don't even look both ways when I cross the street. |

They were popular in the homes built on newly developed land. Of course, that land was usually next to prime wildfire areas. |

Prayers for everyone affected by this fire, the firefighters, wildlife. Quoting: ItsaTwister Wow, that is high heat! And I thought it was hot in Oklahoma! Lord, In Your Mercy, Hear Our Prayers It's easier to take when you have low humidity. 110 here is like 90 in Oklahoma If we have humidity coming up from Mexico and heat above 90, it's miserable |

This thing is moving fast. From the 14 to Little Tujunga in less than 12 hours??? Supposed to stay in triple digits Saturday too. I am about 30 miles from Santa Clarita but in the direction its headed. Timelapse I found showing how big this thing is. |

Quoting: Ziconic The sky is bizarre looking. Some years ago my sister was in riverside during a big fire. She said when she looked out the window it looked like hell, smoke, red sky. We got the almost full red moon tonight. Supposedly at Dillon Divide right now. Seems very fast moving. |

In 1976 we had the Big Tujunga fire over here. During the daytime the sky was orange and ash was falling everywhere. Back then we still went to school. No canceling school and staying home. lol! |

Looks like most of LA is under smoke and ash at this point. Its hot about 100 and pretty windy. sandfire is the tag and the local news is barely covering this. |
