Like someone from a different state for instance

Unless they put your address on it, there's probably nothing wrong, legally... it's just not right in other ways.

Situations might exist where someone is homeless and can't make it to a public mailbox, for instance.
If that isn't the case where you live, can't imagine their reasoning.

Its a federal crime to tamper with a mail box. Your Email is fair game for google and the FBI, however....Go figure.

if theyre just mailing something why would you care? if theyre stealing your mail, that would be a problem

I think its technically illegal for some random person to even open your mail box. Might be nothing, but thats pretty weird. Never heard of that before.

All mailboxes are federal property. Unless your mail is delivered to a letterbox (going into your house) or a P.O. box, which require key access, they are considered public boxes.

So, if they use postage, don't disturb your mail, otherwise don't impede delivery of your mail, and don't fraudulently claim the address... its legal.
