I can't remember the Documentary name but I heard once that before WW1 what was to become Germany was the most industrialized nation in Europe.They had the most advanced machinery and smelting plants. and also this is weird. they figured out how to make green dye? This made it very rich and Britain was jealous of them. I think it may of been the original "Civilisation" Doc made by the BBC. Or maybe Connections with James Burke.

Interesting. Ya, I think for sure Britain was worried that Germany would replace them as the main European power. And by 1914, they arguably had.
