In retail they intentionally make the job as shitty as possible. They know there is an endless pool of semi retireds, kids, released felons and others that will step right in and take your place.

If you actually liked the job and the company you might one day say to yourself: "If I had a dollar an hour more and a dental plan, I might stay here for life." You might actually be interested when the union guys come around talking about organizing.

What they really want you say to yourself is: "Fuck it, I'll stay for the rest of the year and then after Christmas I'm gone." When the union guys show up you still say, fuck it, I don't care one way or the other cause I'm outta here ASAP. That's what they want.
