In the 70s, people could work a customer service job and earn a living wage.
Why would you take pride in your service skills when you're barely making enough money to buy gas to drive to your 2nd, 3rd and 4th jobs?
Blame "Made in China" Trump.

Family comes first, it's why we're all working. So if employees are expected to take pride in their position, they need to be adequately compensated for their work, time, and for the time spent away from family (which is worth more than any employer can pay, really, but that doesn't he can't at least acknowledge that).
