Obsessing over things you can't change
does anyone else do this? Get something they hear about or read about or see and while it doesn't affect them on a personal level, the injustice and suffering of it just gets to ya so ya can't get it out of your mind?

It's "old" news..but I don't think a damn thing has probably changed for the veterans in these facilities. I wish so much better for them than they are getting today. And all I can do is what..pray? To a god that allows it?

No, no anger..trying not to go there. But I can't get shit like this out of my mind sometimes, even if it isn't very "productive".

less than fifty.

In March 2011, 47-year-old Donald Demonbreum was charged with using excessive force while caring for four patients at the Ardmore Veterans Center. The charges allege Demonbreum had been abusing residents since 2010. He is awaiting trial.

During the police investigation, Sgt. Kevin Norris told the Ardmore Ardmorite, staff members at the center had been aware of complaints against Demonbreum for months, but failed to report it to police. That revelation led to the June 2011 resignation of the center’s administrator, Greg Robertson.

• On June 28, 2011, Jeremy Craig Lyday, a 27-year-old employee of the Norman Veterans Center, was charged with one count of rape and two counts of forcible oral sodomy against patients with advanced dementia. Lyday’s case is pending in Cleveland County District Court.

In 2011, several high-level ODVA staff members and the Norman Veterans Center medical director resigned, citing concerns about veterans’ treatment.

Hiti, the medical director who resigned, said she gave up the position because too many veterans were being hurt.
“It’s absolutely disgraceful,” she said.

Hiti said the problems have spread across the state because there is little oversight of center administrators and other staff.

“It’s systemic,” she said. “I used to be part of the medical directors group. We would get together and review each other’s cases, and they are happening at every center. The administrators feel empowered to decide everything. The problems are not going to go away until they improve staffing, provide better training and stop the administrators from making medical decisions.”

This is the one that really got me started about this. The one I haven't been able to really get out of my mind since I saw it on the news a few years ago. I can't help thinking, that poor man, he served his country honorably and went through so much..and to have that done to him..to die like that..

less than fifty.

On May 2, 2012, what should have been a routine whirlpool bath for the 85-year-old New Mexico native, left the World War II vet badly wounded.

"He was screaming, 'they burned my legs, they burned my legs,'" Minter recalled, repeating the words she heard from her husband, as she entered his room that day.

Very early the following morning, Jay Minter passed away. A subsequent examination by the state Medical Examiner determined he died from second-degree burns, which covered more than half of his body.

Frances Minter says his fatal injuries were the result of both faulty equipment and neglect.

In fact, an investigation showed the tub's thermometer wasn't working, and the nurse's aide who had placed Minter in scalding hot water and was supposed to watch him -- at the same time she was bathing three other men -- didn't pay close enough attention to him.

One more quote. With emphasis. This is the shit that needs to fucking change, and people need to be calling legislators and bugging them and burning up phones to see what can be done.

ODVA convinced the Legislature to exempt the veterans centers from the state Nursing Home Care Act. The move freed ODVA from what its leadership felt were overlapping regulations, but which, critics say, had the effect freeing it from any meaningful oversight -- the veterans centers were no longer be subject to state Health Department inspections, but only the inspections of the federal Veterans Administration.

I do. I've been burned many times and recently by a lawyer who back stabbed me for a quick profit. Its called recycling and eventually you can go into paralysis. It gets harder as you get older as well. Must learn to live for today. Jesus was crucified between regret of the past and fear of the future so try and stay in the present, easier said than done.
