The cities of Messina and Reggio Calabria were almost completely destroyed and between 75,000 and 200,000 lives. On 28 December 1908, from about 05:20 to 05:21, an earthquake of 7.1 on the moment magnitude scale occurred, centered on the city of Messina, in Sicily. Reggio on the Italian mainland also suffered heavy damage. The ground shook for some 30 to 40 seconds, and the destruction was felt within a 300-kilometer (186-mile) radius. Moments after the earthquake, a 12-meter (39-foot) tsunami struck nearby coasts, causing even more devastation; 91% of structures in Messina were destroyed, and some 70,000 residents were killed. (OP) User ID: 72913001 Australia 09/03/2016 05:37 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Next up. The Calabrian earthquakes!! What a year this was... The same year as the Laki, Iceland eruption. 1783... Just a few months prior to the eruption! The 1783 Calabrian earthquakes were a sequence of five strong earthquakes that hit the region of Calabria in southern Italy (then part of the Kingdom of Naples), the first two of which produced significant tsunamis. The epicenters form a clear alignment extending nearly 100 km from the Straits of Messina to about 18 km SSW of Catanzaro. The epicenter of the first earthquake occurred in the plain of Palmi. The earthquakes occurred over a period of nearly two months, all with estimated magnitudes of 5.9 or greater. Estimates of the total number of deaths lie in the range 32,000 to 50,000. On Feb 5th 1783. This earthquake, with an estimated magnitude of 7.0, affected a large area including most of the southern Italian peninsula and shook the whole island of Sicily. Many villages were damaged and as many as 180 almost completely destroyed, with more than 25,000 casualties. A tsunami affected the coastline on both sides of the Straits of Messina, destroying the harbour walls at Messina. Near the epicenter the ground shaking was so intense that people were knocked off their feet and heavy stones were found to be dislodged and upturned. Large landslides caused major destruction at Terranova and Molochio but even well-constructed buildings not thus affected were almost completely destroyed, such as in Oppido Mamertina and Casalnuovo. The next day: This magnitude 6.2 event occurred during the night following the first event and struck the area just to the southwest. Most of the damage and casualties appear to have been caused by a tsunami that was set off by a major collapse of Monte Pací into the sea near Scilla shortly after the earthquake. Many of Scilla's residents, frightened by the tremors of the previous day had moved onto the open beach for the night, where they were overwhelmed by the waves. The tsunami caused severe flooding in the town, reaching as far as 200 m inland, and there were more than 1500 deaths. This was followed by 3 further events other the next few weeks! What a shit year 1783 was! [link to en.m.wikipedia.org (secure)] |

(OP) User ID: 72913380 Australia 09/03/2016 08:29 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Here's another of very recent times... 1923. The Great Kanto earthquake struck the Plain on the Japanese main island of Honshu at 11:58:44 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 1923. Varied accounts indicate the duration of the earthquake was between four and ten minutes. The earthquake had a magnitude of 7.9 on the moment magnitude scale with its focus deep beneath Izushima Island in Sagami Bay. The cause was a rupture of part of the convergent boundary where the Philippine Sea Plate is subducting beneath the Okhotsk Plate along the line of the Sagami Trough. Estimated casualties totaled about 142,800 deaths, including about 40,000 who went missing and were presumed dead. The damage from this natural disaster was the greatest sustained by prewar Japan. A tsunami with waves up to 10 m (33 ft) high struck the coast of Sagami Bay, Peninsula, Izu Islands, and the east coast of Izu Peninsula within minutes. The tsunami caused many deaths. I spent a few evenings looking into the Laki event. I even watched some lectures about volcanism in Iceland. lol [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] Another lecture here Nature as Historical Protagonist What role did natural environmental processes, both physical and biological, play in shaping the course of economic development over the last millennium and longer? Historical accounts often overlook the independent influence that natural agencies could exercise upon the supply of and demand for resources, via their effects upon the reproduction, health, and life expectancy of humans and the domesticated plants and animals required for subsistence. Bruce M. S. Campbell explores the significant environmental component to the course of pre-industrial economic development, investigating the comparisons between the chronologies of prices, wages, grain harvests and the corresponding chronologies of growing conditions and climactic variations, taking into consideration dendrochronology, the Greenland ice cores and the episode of the Black Death. TrueWords User ID: 72909850 United Kingdom 09/04/2016 04:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | when the world is in turmoil ,maybe during the next war , possibly during huge world changing events The world is going to go through some changes now, it's the beginning process, but we are going to witness things you'd only see in movies , think natural disasters daily , like in Italy with the earthquakes, war . Maybe not war and chaos world wide , but tactical war. I mean, nobody can war like [liveleak]before with the threat of nukes. maybe this is why more of our rights and freedoms are being " altered" to adapt to the new world now. For instance , they are using the immigration issue to scrap the human rights act of 1988 or 1998 I can't remember which, but this is being scraped within the next few weeks, same as the prisons in the uk, there's going to be a complete change to how we process criminals .... Etc, education is being rehauled and the new youth are being brainwashed. anyway that's divulging into another issue , back to the topic , when I say earth changes , This will be very common, it's going to be wide spread through the world causing tsunami's, there will be asteroid and meteors, solor flares and planetary events will alter weather like you havnt seen before , so think about when it snows in the uk one day, then in the afternoon it's hot? this is going to wipe a common issue world wide wiping out ALOT of crop , it's due to a cycled polar shift , I can tell more if you wish but it's another topic all together.Tthe price of food is going to rise of corse, and this also is going to kill off a lot of wildlife , plantation , animals, this effecting the food situation greatly. I feel this is mentioned in the bible , about becoming spiritual before the rapture. I believe the rapture is when the world comes to experience this cycled polar shift , this has happened 3 or 4 times in the past , wiping out civilisation, but we are the most advanced civilisation , and have the tech that I believe none of our ancestors had. Don't let that fool you into believing all past civilisations were less advanced , because they were all different in knowledge, for instance , there were Giants it's in documented books hidden , you think they cured a headache with a Nerofen? You think they went to Starbucks for a fuckachino? No, they were advanced in building , and spiritually. They didn't get cancer because they didn't drink chemically manufactured coke cola , they drank water that wasn't filtered and chemically treated like ours is today. The show runners know this I feel , hence why there is a drive for vegan lifestyles and gluten free now, that's why there's a load on red meat giving you cancer , it's because meat is going to be hard to come by the next 5 years , possibly 10 if you're referring to biblical references and predictions from famous scholars like Isaac Newton and Naustradamus, again I'm divulging onto another topic , that's why I feel they want to ban smoking now world wide, it puts a lot of people out of work also. Try to see the bigger picture , See the what else is going to happen, car emissions for example ,this is to halt the automotive industry so electric motors and self driven cars will be in effect , wow , coo right? It's all about control , there will be no control in the future , the new future world will be electric cars , futuristic world. Sounds crazy right, look this is what a war brings about. It brings about change , look at world war 1 , then world war 2, if you read in depth it depopulated the world, brought about new tech and jobs , cities boomed after the war , especially Germany who became the automotive powerhouse of Europe shortly after, but talking about depopulation, they can do now with manufactured viruses and food , drink that you all Willingly buy. Take note of Zika, this is major wait and see. But , the same thing happens before any major conflict. A collapse of the economy world wide , a mass immigration ... Sound familiar? Holocaust : this is happening now , except we have invaded their amazingly beautiful countries , rich with oil and gold coincidentally , liberated them of their Horrid leaders , and reduced their countries to battlegrounds, making millions upon millions of people homeless and on a mission to where? Do you really think anyone cares about these immigrants? They are making them hate the west , whilst media and news promotes a hate campaign across the west against Muslim cloture and society , yet they are merging the two , together? .... This will only end in civil war and army occupying the streets , we will see this within 5 years , I'm sure. I'm sounding scary when I say conflict, people just imagine doom and bombs and apocalyptic endings , that isn't the case , it's all strategic and planned , and now with added technology, just imagine what they could achieve during world war. So, back to topic, when all the animals that we eat start to die off in mass , we will all be fucked. we are in the 10 year period now I feel, where whatever animals cannot adapt to the new climate , they will kill themselfs off. Think dodo, think black rhino to name 2, it's evolution, possibly , And I don't think we are that far off. 5 years or more , maybe 1 year or this year, who fucking knows but that's why you have to take life day by day and make the most of it. But referring back to alien life , I believe the wake up period of the public has begun and something big will happen involving alien life this or next year , Who knows though , exciting times. The tech is going to be steamrolling through now but this is coming at a great cost and there's nothing we can really do about it |
