I too, love this new edit and it's on the mark regarding global sentiment regarding American politics.

Did it ever occur to many of you that the peoples of Europe and Asia are just as disgusted as we? For decades the United States was held up as a shining example of what a good country should be - that's precisely why so many millions have immigrated here.

But they -like us- have also witnessed the gradually increasing ruthlessness of our domestic and foreign policies. They have see us invade their countries or threaten to do so. They have seen us bomb their cities and kill their children.... and always, always in the name of democracy. Then they hear of how our elections are rigged and we have a government that attacks it's own people. Most recently they are witnessing Americans attacks the fellow citizens and it SCARES them. So, of course they're following this election closely and it's because of the sincere promise of change that Donald Trump guarantees.

We knew from his first appearances it wasn't going to be politics-as-usual and that's why many of us latched onto his ideologies so quickly and embrace them so completely.... and that's also why he has such support abroad. Once Again: America is giving them hope.

NOW: for those who find Can You Hear The People Sing? overwhelming in it's emotional impact and insist on comparing it to marching songs of a past era, here's why it seems that way to you: European nations have always used anthems to unite their populace during times of both war and peace - but we've never done this here in the U.S. - since presumably our people have always been united enough to not need them! The last time there was a huge resurgance of patriot music was when John Phillip Sousa toured with his incredible band...and, even today I defy you not to feel goosebumps when you hear the Marine Corps Band play "Semper Fidelis." But, TIMES HAVE CHANGED and we need anthems as national identifiers more than ever.

Anthems -whether in a Broadway show or not- are specifically written to appeal to the core values of the listener and to move them emotionally. In this case, it's a perfect marriage of soaring melodies and intense lyrics....and once you've heard it a few times, its also pretty tough to get out of your head.

So, remember... the entire world is watching and pinning their hope on the outcome of this election; once again we've given them hope for a better future and that future begins right here and now. For both them AND us!

This music, "Do You Hear the People Sing?," was composed by Claude-Michel Schönberg, who was born in 1944 of Hungarians parents. Those who compare this music to Germany and Italy fail to note that their martial music glorified the state, the government which repressed the people This music however, obviously encourages the people in their struggles for freedom from oppressive governments who are indifferent to the needs of their people.

The music, with translated words, has been an anthem in Hong Kong and Taiwan's push back agains the Communist Chinese regime.
