The 2nd Brigade, 7th Infantry Division deployed to LA during the Rodney King Riots. A USMC brigade deployed to LA. The commander of JTF-LA (Joint Task Force - Los Angeles) was MG Marvin Covault, the 7th ID commander. It is not unprecedented.

The DRF would be a waste in Charlotte. Those guys are slated to go anywhere in the world in 18 hours.

Op please post copy of deployment orders as soon as they become available so we know where these Marines will be deployed, when and why. Thanks.

My veteran fiance says that means they are deploying if this is true. He's army, not Marines.

While I totally understand wanting to know what is going on please do NOT put the lives of any armed forces at increased risk. Remember the old saying, "Lose lips sinks ships!"

Ask your veteran fiance if he was ever in a unit that that had a lost or stolen sensitive item. If so, he knows full well the shitstorm that ensues while trying to find/recover said sensitive item. If this is a real situation, and a single battalion has this happening, it could very well be in response to such a situation. Doom off.

If this is true then my guess it's not for Charlotte NC. Things were fairly quiet there last night.

I'm a Marine. I posted in the prior thread. I wouldn't worry. I haven't heard about anything to be concerned about. If the source is legit which it may not be,I still think it could be a local command decision for some stupid reason. But my guess is a local security concern due to the tension brewing from the riots.

The NG are more than capable of handling a domestic disturbance and that's part of their mission and training. The grunts at Swamp LeJeune are top rate skull crackers and wouldn't be wasted on a riot patrol. Also, If the Marines are ever called out for that duty it would most likely be the MPs unless they were short handed, which they are not.

This is almost certainly a contingency for South Korea due to recent movements that have someone high up worried. Once this came up it was because the Norks ordered every able bodied male to shave their heads, which has only happened once or twice before (ever). Sounds a little crazy but trust me, I know what I'm talking about. Marines call this 'sitting on our seabags'.

While I agree it's poor opsec to talk about such things this cat is out of the bag now. Sounds like what is more formally known as a 24 hour recall notice. When it happens to a battalion it's for a major deployment. They would be the advance party.

East coast and West coast Marines have areas of the globe they are responsible for and Korea falls to the East coast. If it turns out they go to Norway it's because Russia is about to make a move but that's not too likely imo. It's most likely a 'just in case' move.

If it was MEF then you might have some questions...but a 1000 guys....pfffft... I have to give the nod to Mckringleberry
