I wouldn't give anyone my stuff. Plus under Queensland law you can only get half of the proceeds acquired after marriage.

In that if you own a house before you get married; it isn't categorized as a marital asset and as such you get to keep it after your divorce. Thus if a woman wanted to take someone to the cleaners in Australia, they'd have to be married for at least a decade to acquire property.

As a result "prenups" don't count under Australian law; as previously owned property to the marriage isn't counted to towards the proceeds of the marriage. Eg marital assets.

Personally if I got married, I'd get divorced in Australia due to this aspect of marital assets.

With the case being Australia is a first world western nation, a divorce in Australia is more likely to be upheld in other "first world" nations due to the commonality of Westminster law.

The law is Family Law as stated by the Family Court of Australia; which is Federal.

The biggest reason to fight in Australian divorce Court is custody, not assets. As 60% of the marital assets goes to the person who acquires custody of the children, if any.

But it's cheaper to get your lawyers to wrangle out an agreement on marital asset distribution than duke it out in court. Which usually throws everything into a pot and gives each party 50% unless there are children of the relationship.
