That tsunami threat is from a volcano on a different island in the Canaries - that would be El Hierro.
This weeks quake swarm is on the island of Gran Canaria, under the volcano Mt Tiede.

No East coast panic needed, yet.

Also... Tiede itself, is merely just the resurgent Dome inside the much LARGER Caldera. The whole Island itself is the top of the entire volcano, an the island is more then 5 times to the side of Hierro.

Lastly.

Hierro isn't the one they're afraid of collapsing and causing a Tsunami.

Thats La Palma!

But regardless, of all the volcano's in the Canaries, Tiede is the biggest, and its Caldera shows its last major eruption resulted in a caldera collapse towards the EAST, and there is nothing blocking a Tsunami from there, from reaching the US East Coast.

Most likely VEI 5 max similar to Mt St Helens 1980 or Vesuvius 79 AD eruptions.

NOT likely to produce a major tsunami affecting the US; however there is a bulge on the north of Teide that has a potential to collapse into the ocean and cause a tsunami affecting local islands.

It will possibly cause air travel disruptions to Northern Africa, Southern Europe, the Mediterranean and Middle East in the worst case of VEI 5 and favorable wind patterns.
