As you pointed out, it's a sovereign country. And while we did impose a no-fly zone over Iraq, at least there were UN resolutions that gave some legitimacy to our involvement there. There's no such circumstance with Syria, and in hind sight, our involvement in Iraq was an unmitigated disaster, and a good part of the reason that the whole reason is so chaotic. The Russian military was not supporting Iraq when that no-fly zone was imposed. It would be an entirely different matter in Syria, and would be a de-facto declaration of war with Russia. I wonder if the Nobel committee would demand that Obutthead return his Peace Prize? |
