As a follow up post to my one above....

If we meet the Independence Day Level aliens, we are in deep shit. If we meet the War of the Worlds level aliens we are in deep shit.

If we meet the Interstellar level aliens, we might have a chance (I know the Interstellar level ones are us, but just as an example)

I think the farther they are from us, the more pity and altruism they would have, or no interaction at all.

The others would be annoyed and just stomp on us like a bothersome fly.

See, this is the type of thinking that's gonna make us the aliens rolling in on other species one day.

We could find all sorts of life out there, and still stay right at the very top of the heap from now until the end of all things.

Look at the planet we're already on, littered with intelligent life, yet only one stands tall.

We've mapped our gnomes, we're building AI and planning our space colonies, we have no limits.

They are so far away that any life would have died out millions of years ago. It takes a long long long time for those signals to travel through space.

It's the equivalent of aliens looking at the Earth today with a huge telescope they would see Dinosaurs roaming around.

It very well could be more advanced civilizations than ours, but not advanced enough to enable interstellar space travel.

A way of acknowledging to each other that there are other forms of intelligent life "out there."

I wonder if the strobes can be decoded somehow, as if a signal or something.

I have pondered how humanity can survive not only the challenges of war and accident on this planet, e.g., some third world scientist cooks up the Andromeda Strain by accident and ends humanity, but also how do we survive our inevitable meeting with vastly superior civilizations.

Obviously, we need to push our science and technology forward at the fastest pace possible. Obviously, we must not allow parasites, e.g., trial lawyers, to impede progress.

Ancient civilizations made rapid advances by purposely breeding more intelligent and capable humans. The Greeks offer a good example where both men and women sought the best genetics in a potential mate.

In a modern society, we now have not only sperm banks and egg donors to create more capable humans, but the CRISPR gene editing technology offers rapid and targeted advancement.

As Ray Kurzweil points out, the Singularity is Near (prophetic book) and we will merge human intelligence with our computers in the not so distant future.

It is clear to me that Dr. Leary was also a prophet when he set out the goals for humanity: Life Extension, Intelligence Increase, Space Colonization.

Lastly, I think that when we can build a starship/ark, we should send them off with instructions to change trajectories several times and never radiate a signal. Perhaps humans will survive in some distant corner of the galaxy.
