Disturbing Announcement On An Amtrak Train Last Night

I was traveling to and from Los Angeles both Friday and Saturday and decided to take the trains. On the trip home last night I was on an Amtrak train.

After we left Los Angeles Union Station and were in a more industrial area the train stopped. It wasn't at a station, but I just thought it was because of another train on the track or passing or whatever. That's pretty common.

Then one of the conductors makes an announcement that really made me feel very nervous, especially after the recent terror threats.

He said that the train was stopped for security reasons, and that there is a security scanning system near the tracks. This system scans for any devices or other anomalies as the train passes, and our train was stopped for inspection.

He apologized for the delay, said that no devices were found and we would resume our trip shortly.

And I was sitting in my seat looking like...

Anyone heard of this system? I guess I'm glad they've stepped up their security, but damn, I'm not sure if I feel better about the announcement or not.

It didn't help that the train I was waiting for the day before hit someone on the track. Then the Amtrak scheduled after the one I was on going home hit someone else. Two train deaths and a bomb scare in two days!
