US Currency collapse?
Yesterday it took 1.35 CA dollars to buy 1.00 US dollar.

Right now .75 CAD will buy 1.00 USD.

I'm suddenly making sales of my product to Canadians who I've lost as customers for the past several years due to the unfavorable exchange rate.

It's a momentary blip. Trump is trying to actually make our money worth something again. See Brexit

Nope. cool2

I wouldn't give blips with particular countrys a lot of significance unless you're a currency trader or, like you, locking in foreign sales at a given moment but as American citizen in general only the long term picture really matters.

OK - thanks. For a long time several years ago the CAD exchange rate favored Canadians buying my product, then it changed. For the past 2-3 years, it was better for Canadians to buy in Canada. At least for this moment, it's back to favoring buying in the US.

So you think this will be a "blip" and not a trend?

Someone just said they though it was because of Canadians fearing a large influx of Americans???

Currency markets are like any other- subject to sudden shock reactions to extraordinary events from which they recover quickly. Only time will tell of course and I'm not privy to any special information but I'll personally be very surprised if the almighty US Dollar takes a hit that lasts more than days at most.

Re: US Currency collapse?
Ideally, lower dollar value against foreign currencies is good for the American economy as our exports increase.

Unfortunately, many out there believe that a strong dollar means a strong economy... No, it just means we can buy things cheaper made outside of the US, ergo, we import more and produce less here (as in jobs leaving).

Realistically, as the economy continues to go sour in Europe and as the Fed increases rates, we will see an influx of wealth pouring into the US - driving the dollar to new highs. That flight to safety, as some call it, will be a tough issue to resolve for the new administration.

Just my opinion.
