Journey To Nowhere

Two ships prepared to sail the ocean wide
One was called 'Look Inside,' the other 'Merry Pride,'
And many were called, and many were bidden
To make swift reply, in accordance, to the invitation,
And one by one they came by the morning light
To see which ship they would choose for their
enamoured flight,
So they came first to the ship that was called
'Look Inside' and saw that it was plain and simple
without grandeur
So none saw it fit to make this most precious
journey with her, for in their hearts they all
wanted something better,
Save one poor soul who in the daily course of life
didn't follow the norm
And was not like the rest whose main objective
to their existence was to conform,
So they all went to the other ship that is called
'Merry Pride'
And all with one accord chose it, for it was
arrayed with the delight of their eyes,
In it every fantasy became real, even the very
walls glittered with fine gold
And the enticement of it sent a thrill deep down
into their very soul,
They entered and made themselves at home, and
became comfortable, fat and satisfied
And life became one big party, everything was for
the taking
Beyond the shadow of a doubt, nought was for mistaking
So then who would of believed that it was all a lie?
But the captain of the ship, alone in his chamber
shrouded in secrecy, they did not know him well
It mattered not however, so off on their journey they set sail
Into the deepening blue, afar off from shore
Till the remembrance of all things past was no more,
Even further they sailed, in their frolic and glee, into
the dark side of eternity
Where life has lost its meaning, farther and farther
away from reality,
And the captain of the ship, now introducing himself,
hooded and pale, had a story to tell
About him being their navigator, in this their fateful
destination, a journey into hell
He said, 'once you're in you're in for good, there's no
way out of here
There's no turning back, even if you could, you are
miles from nowhere,
So sit back and enjoy the ride, on this great ship
Merry Pride
There's room here for everyone, for the gates of
hell are opened wide,'
As for the poor lost soul that remained behind, well, at
least he still has his mind
He looked inside and saw himself there, even though
his ship never left shore to journey anywhere
And out into the horizon he watched Merry Pride sail
off into nowhere
