Once in my youth as a sailor in the USN some Seabees at the base had told us about a house of prostitution in Monterey. A crew was gather and we took off to town. Arriving at the motel location, we were sitting in the car waiting on a red light to change to make the turn into the parking lot when the doors opened and the police were seen leading the girls out. A red light kept us from being busted along with the girls.

I tried to use a wreck as an example to my sixteen year old son to slow down. I told him to find the answer for how long would it take a 20foot car driving 55 miles an hour to clear a 14 foot section of an intersection. There had just been a fatal accident at just such an intersection where a kid had busted the stop sign and t boned a woman. I can't remember the exact answer and don't have the time to do it right now, but basically I believe it was less than a second. Had she gotten a red light instead of green, fumbled to get her keys in the ignition, done just about anything in the world to have gotten to that intersection a second earlier or later and she would be alive now. It showed me that our lives are predetermined and there's nothing we can do to change that.

Once about 10 yrs ago I was at a stop light .. When it turned green I gassed it and my car stalled?? WTF ..Not manual or an old car .. A semi care careening through the red light perpendicular to me at the same time..

I would have been crushed .. I still have that car .. It has never stalled out since..

I know it was not on My decision like your post was directed but what the heck.. I will tell it anyway

My wife would have been on the PATH train under the WTC on 911 if she wasn't delayed by losing her unemployment paperwork at home.....the unemployment office was also a block from the WTC....

Same here...

Worked at the WTC. Was at home with my sick son that day. Watched a lot of people I knew die on tv.

I do have a funny one, though...

I was about 12 and went to one of those Russian traveling circuses, at an area convention center, where they had these enormous bay doors dotted around the perimeter to let in big equipment and whatever.

About half way through, I needed to use the restroom. So, I climb down from the bleachers and head in that direction. Suddenly, the lights go down to black...like you can't see your hand in front of your face.

I was just going to stand where I was until the lights came back up, but then I got this really weird sense and felt a vibration in my chest. All I know is that my brain told my to get my feet the hell out of there, so I jogged a bit forward.

Something brushed against my back.

Then the lights come blazing back up.

Elephants. And entire line of about 5 elephants that almost stomped me dead.

The lead elephant was the one which had brushed my back.

Freaked me out, because their feet didn't make a single sound as they moved. Absolutely stealth, I swear it.

I found out years later that elephants communicate with a very low (below human hearing) frequency sound, which humans can feel as a vibration in their chests, like a bass drum vibration.

I still don't know what made me move, but it still makes me laugh thinking about the most ridiculous way I almost died.

What were these people thinking when they shut off the lights and posted NO ONE by the elephant entrance?

I have had many times where something happened and I just barely missed out on being involved in several incidents, some minor some that could have meant death. I am agnostic in religion, but sometimes I wonder if God might just be keeping me around anyways for some reason I may never know.

There was going to be an open house at a new title company office I had planned on attending and had been looking forward to. Many of my Realtor coworkers were going, there was going to be great food, music, door prizes. I was having a good hair day; son was with his dad for the weekend.

Had weird feeling as I pulled out of the driveway and overwhelming dread when I approached the stop sign at the edge of my neighborhood. I felt I absolutely could not leave. Fought against this irrational belief for a few minutes then turned around and went home.

Had a cup of tea and relaxed for half an hour. Decided this was nonsense and I WAS GOING to go as planned. Same thing happened! I could not make myself leave the neighborhood. Thought I was getting agoraphobia or some other odd mental condition. Gave up and stayed inside for the evening.

Nothing like this has happened to me before or since then and was told by friends that nothing unusual occurred at the open house event. This was years ago and I have often wondered about it.

I think my guardian angels were there for me, as they have been many times before and since then.

Re: Have you ever avoided an accident or tragedy due to a decision that seemed insignificant at the time?
Back in 1993 I was feeling a bit down. My sister had died a few months before. My husband, uncharacteristically, asked me if I'd like to go into Warrington and have a bit of shopping spree. We'd been there a couple of times before and it had a nice shopping area. It was tempting but it was a lovely spring day so I suggested we go over to Snowdonia and enjoy the scenery instead.

We had a lovely day and on the way home I decided to switch on the radio. It was six o'clock and the news came on. That's when we found out that there had been a bomb attack in the centre of Warrington. People had died and others had been horribly injured. That could have been us. I still think of young Tim Parry and three year old Jonathon Ball who died, may they rest in peace.

i had the opposite yesterday.
went to mc donalds. drove off. halted for a few seconds to open a cheeseburger to eat while driving (usually dont do that) drive off. 30 seconds later im almost hit at high speed by someone i didnt see because they didnt have their carlights on. he just kept driving. so i followed him to the next light and went up to his car.
he acted super suprised and kinda creeped out about me opening his door. i told him hes driving with his lights off.
he probably has no idea he almost rammed me.
he was super baked and probably also just went do mcdonalds or something..

anyway. hadnt i stopped i might have been in front of him and got hit. or maybe this wouldnt have happened at all.

but i was scared shitless. lol

October 17th 1989 We landed at Oakland International Airport to start a two week vacation in San Francisco.. We pickup up our rental car and started in the general direction of San Francisco..

I got it my head somehow? we need to buy some weed before heading over.. My new bride was like? Have you lost your damn mind.. You want to pull over and score some smoke from these shady brothers?

A fight of epic proportion ensued.. I look up and what do I see? High Street Exit~! I was like? Sign For God~!! We pulling over and scoring some weed.. MY new bride is freaking the hell out.. "I can't believe you'd risk my life for that shit".. Crying like a fricking baby.. Any other day? I'd have given in.. Not Today~!

So I pull off the freeway and head east to the corner of High and and like e14th.. I see some brother and was like~? Weed? The brothers were like? Sure what you looking for? I was like? one 8ffff please.. I hand the guy cash and the guy hands me the weed wrapped in news paper..

I'm so happy and start heading back over and pull back onto the freeway.. I start driving and all of a sudden I think at that very moment? I think I'm having a blow out and get the car stopped..

In the distance about 1000 yards out? The can see the freeway and it just starts collapsing like a fricking pancake..

I realize whats happening and see an exit I had just passed in the rear view mirror.. I turn the car onto the shoulder even with traffic behind me start driving in reverse backing down the exit using the shoulder..

We drove on the surface streets up through the delta all the way to Sacramento on back roads.. Went to a hotel and checked in. We hung out for a few days watching events unfold on tv while smoking up the 8fff that saved our lives... We hopped a fight back home from Sac..

To this very day.. My wife tells the story of how my weed smoking saved our lives.. #rolling20s

Yes. When I was 14 yrs old, I was hanging out at a friends house. She lived in the country & we decided to explore her neighbors land. The neighbors friendly dog (a heeler breed, if I recall correctly) followed us out. As we approached a massive oak tree on the property, the dog walked in front of me & stopped me by physically standing in front of me & leaning against my legs. I thought he wanted attention so I gave him a pat & moved around him. Once again, he ran in front of me & used his weight to stop me from walking forward. At that point I realized he was trying to tell me something so I decided to listen. Seconds later one of the biggest branches of the tree broke off & came crashing down. Had my friend & I been standing under it, we would've been crushed.

I give full credit to the dog for saving my life, but I'm glad I decided to heed his warning.

1989 oct 17 .... Santa cruz CA. after working all day in the incredible heat i was supposed to meet my friend at 5:00 in a coffee shop at the top of the mall downtown. I decided to go to the club where i worked out to sauna and shower first.... i never run late but i knew this would make me late and i didnt care. i had a strange sense of being in a preplanned meeting as i went into the sauna, i got uncomfortable after one minute and decided to take a shower and leave.... as i was naked in line for a shower it earthquake hit.... it was 5:05, the place people died in the quake was at the coffeeshop at the top of the mall. My friend was late also.

2006 October 15 at 7:07 AM , hawaii. driving to work on the Pali, (large cliffs along the ocean) i get the sense something is going to happen and i hear a voice say pull over. i immediately pull over. i am in a gulch between two large cliff walls and 15 seconds later a 7. earthquake hits and in front of me and behind me the cliff turn to rubble and rocks and dust are falling..... so glad i listened to that voice.

I had a similar experience OP.. I had left my work parking lot and pulled up to the intersection to turn left. The light was green, but I stared at it momentarily confused about whether or not I could go. So I stopped. Just a second later, a van barreled through the red light... If hadn't had that moment of confusion, I would have been T-Boned

What happened to you is called synchronicity. It's possible to make some changes in your life to make you aware of the smallest of moments to understand the workings of synchronicity.

When you request something of the universe, it's delivered
to you through synchronicity. We've been taught to rationalize
these things as coincidence, but it's much more complicated than
that. It happens when you are flowing with the current of life.

Don't dismiss the synchronicity of what is happening right now finding its
way to your life at just this moment. There are no coincidences in the universe,
only convergences of will, intent, and experience. -Neale Donald Walsch

Synchronicity is an ever present reality for those who have eyes to see. -Carl Jung

Increased synchronicity is an indication from the All, that a spiritual transformation is happening withing you.
