The richest families in Florence in 1427 are still the richest families in Florence
The richest families in Florence, Italy have had it good for a while—600 years to be precise.

That’s according to a recent study by two Italian economists, Guglielmo Barone and Sauro Mocetti, who after analyzing compared Florentine taxpayers way back in 1427 to those in 2011.

“The top earners among the current taxpayers were found to have already been at the top of the socioeconomic ladder six centuries ago,”

Elite never give up their power. And this is just in Italy imagine the rest of the world.

Parents that care to provide for their children pass on their land and wealth. Parents that breed like rats only care about themselves, and pass on nothing to their children.

This is so true. I am always disgusted to read comments from people who are proud or boasting that they are going to leave their children nothing so they can learn the value of hard work or whatever.

They have never realized that they are nothing more than farm animals at that point. How could anyone think it good that their family never progresses beyond "worker", generation after generation.

PBS had a fascinating series a few decades ago about different times the world changed forever.

One particular episode was how the invention of double entry bookkeeping turned Florence, Italy into the center for international trade. The invention made it far easier to calculate trade transactions.

From those riches the Medici family and maybe others spent a good portion of their money supporting the arts. As a result, the Italian Renaissance was born which spread to other European countries.

So we can say that double-entry bookkeeping gave rise to the Renaissance, and without it the explosion in fine arts would not have occurred. Capitalism for the win!

Yes, I did cure my Stage 4 cancer in two weeks when I was 48. I also reversed my chronic kidney disease (glomerulonephritis) when I was 25. In neither case were any medical treatments involved.
