Trump then added this bizarre claim: “All the dress shops are sold out in Washington. It’s hard to find a great dress for this inauguration.”

That oddly gendered claim is blatantly false, however...

Salon visited several stores near the inauguration parade route and found hundreds of available gowns.
The Dior store at City Center had clearly heard of the controversy surrounding Trump’s comments by late Monday morning. As a sales associate was explaining that few area clients had inquired about inauguration weekend attire, a store manager rushed out of the back to shut down Salon’s questioning...

Carolina Herrera...Herrera’s City Center store, two blocks from where Trump’s Commander in Chief inaugural ball will be held, was stocked with plenty of formal gowns...

traditional American designer Kate Spade was fully stocked with dresses. Spade sales associates told Salon that the store has not yet seen an uptick in purchases in anticipation of Trump’s inauguration...

even Macy’s was well stocked with gowns ahead of Trump’s inauguration. Macy’s workers in Washington were even setting up special inaugural edition window displays after Trump’s comments to the Times...

Saks Fifth Avenue’s discount Off 5th store was stocked with dozens of dress designs...

With that said it is systemic to what the left does 24/7, Clinton's and the current alleged President have made it possible to tell a lie often enough where it becomes the truth. Most of us acquired our ball gowns in mid November. It takes time for alterations and customizing. Anyone buying a gown for an Inaugural Ball in the past 2 weeks is clueless.

Okay -- that makes sense. The only dresses left are the ugly ones, and size 14 and up. Since the feminazis will not be attending Trump's Inaugural Balls, stores that cater to their cheap & tacky taste, and carry transgender/dike sizes are stuck with inventory they ordered last summer when their smug asses were certain Hildahag was going to wine.

That was my first thought, I also thought that people attending Trump's inauguration aren't the same people who attended the last two inaugurations, and that they probably already own a lot of nice dresses they could wear, and have places they get them that aren't in Washington, DC of all places.

Hate to say this but this is going to be a different crowd. DC is a nice place but it's no fashion capital of the world and quite often it's years behind other cities in fashion.

If you wanted a current fashionable gown for one of the balls you hauled your butt to NYC and bought your dress there.

If you are going to the inaugural balls for Trump you are not, repeat not buying off the rack at a department store.

Just had a funny thought. There's been a lot of talk about how people tender their resignations as a formality. Maybe a lot of these folks tendered their resignations and were shocked that they were accepted and therefore they don't need to go to the balls to kiss up to the new president as they're out of government.

Think about it, taking advantage of this "formality" of resigning under one president and being picked up by the next president is the perfect time to wholly downsize the government without any fanfare. It would get lost in the midst of all the talk about the inaugural and the festivities.

If that's being done, it would in fact be brilliant.

Heck they can accept the resignations of entire departments en masse.
