Anonymous Coward User ID: 4233613 Canada 01/15/2017 05:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | At what rate do cells divide ?.....I was told it's " the square root of two " The rate at which a body's cells divide is according to the body's need for those particular cells The cell divides necessarily because the inside is growing faster than the outside This can be represented by what is called the surface to volume ratio, or S : V, or S/V. In a cell that is one unit in size, the surface area is 6 square units and the volume is 1 cubic unit. The ratio then is 6/1 As a cell gets larger, this ratio gets smaller, meaning the cell membrane cannot supply the inside with what it needs to survive Can someone explain how the square root of two figures into this ? Thank you |
