Social security is not welfare. That money is taken out of every single one of your paychecks for the 40 to 50 years that you work, until you're old enough to retire and start getting it back. It's your own money that you spent your entire working life paying into your social security retirement fund (and most people get back far less than they ever paid into it).

The older generation just can't win. If they keep working, they're accused of taking jobs from the youth. If they want their social security money, they're accused of living off the backs of the younger workers.

It was the politicians who turned it into a ponzi scheme. That money was supposed to go into an account that the government could not touch, but they illegally stole it and bankrupted social security.
