California's Lake Oroville Main Spillway Severely Damaged/Eroded. Oroville Dam's Recently Reconstructed Main Spillway Fundamentally Flawed

Hey gypsy, hope you are well. How is your mom? You avoiding the blackouts?

It was a relief in a way to not be looking at this thread a few times a day all summer. The thing is, it isn't fixed and the first winter like 2017 it's all over.

I've read a lot about central valley production which is enormous. Eventually produce would shift to other places, but I got several cases of freeze dried strawberries and some other stuff like peppers to tide us over for a year. The loss of nuts will be stunning if the dams fail. Almost 100 % of USA production.

I've had terrible problems with wildlife eating our garden....we are almost done building 2 cages, 100 sq ft each, 7 feet high and fully enclosed with wire sides and top, plus wire on the ground to hopefully stop groundhogs digging under. They leave onions and leeks and potatoes and raspberries alone, so those are not caged. Anyway, it will help if we lose CA veggies, which I expect at some point.

If they were smart they would have spent the last decade building a huge water pipe or canal to northern sources instead of leaving central valley so vulnerable. But, typical CA bungled management.

Well, hope ya'll have a dry year. We will see.

It's been years since I used to houseboat on Oroville, but we went every September for most of the 90's, and as I recall they let out more water than they have this year.

I could be wrong, but this lake is way more full than it should be this time of year. It should probably be somewhere around 700 feet. They're going into the rainy season.

I had another dream that it collapsed again and it wasn't full or overflowing. It seemed like a very good sized chunk of the top of the dam broke off where it looks to be sagging and that part is over 900 feet. The dam then started to crack on the front even more a good portion of it broke of and it collapsed in one part about 300 or 400 feet.

Juan Brown at Blancolirio channel just put out a brief dan update. On phone, cant link. Its in great shape, both spillways all new and ready for winter. You should read the comments...oh how they mock people like us and praise Juan. Lol.

Gonna be another year watching the leaks from the piping underground and hoping she holds up.

So far, forecast models are hinting at a very dry November.

I expect the dam to come down with the next large earthquake.

No, you won't be able to 'drive over the newly reconstructed Main Spillway', since the bridge to drive over has not been reconstructed, only shored up and patched due to the beating it has endured for the past 2+ years from heavy equipment.

There should be lots of boats on the lake Juan, instead of that 'one lone sailboat'. What do you think may be the reason(s) for the lack of boats?

I was asking this question back in late Spring when the water level was almost at capacity? Kids are back in school now, but should still be plenty of retiree bass fisherman out there right Crunch?
