When I was a kid, I stopped around Shasta, had breakfast, walked outside, and there stood Mt Shasta in all its glory. It was early morning and there was a silver thaw. Everything sparkled and it was absolutely beautiful. You could breathe in that crystal cool air and run for miles.

I've never seen anything like it since.

I think the Cascades are waking up now.

The Caldor Fire, considered the No. 1 priority nationally for firefighting resources, has grown to more than 213 square miles. It is 12% contained.

Firefighting resources have grown to nearly 2,900 firefighters, 21 helicopters, 245 engines and dozens of bulldozers

Woman’s Body Found Below Pioneer Bridge In West Sacramento

WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — An investigation is underway after the body of a woman was found in a canal below the Highway 50 bridge in West Sacramento.

West Sacramento police say the woman’s body was discovered little after 11 a.m. Wednesday.

She was in a cement canal east of Jefferson Boulevard and below the Pioneer Bridge.

Exactly how the woman died is now under investigation.

I'm thinking PG&E is playing the fool. God forbid they should release the news that the whole area is being taken over by the Vulcan God.

Fire official says Caldor Fire "has simply outpaced us" as it nears Lake Tahoe

Firefighters tackling the Caldor Fire now have priority over available resources as the blaze has become "the number one fire in the country right now in terms of priorities for values at risk," according to El Dorado National Forest supervisor Jeff Marsolais. Burning only 11 miles southwest of the Lake Tahoe area, local officials said they worry about the fire's spread.

A fire that exploded Wednesday afternoon off the bank of New Melones Reservoir near Parrotts Ferry and Airola roads in Calaveras County and reportedly scorched 700 to 1,000 acres in less than three hours has prompted some school closures Thursday as firefighters work overnight to build containment lines.
