I can say the evacuation plan is ridiculously stupid for those of us in southeastern Butte County (flood evacuation zone 10).

The shortest and most direct route to high ground from this community is due east about a mile and a half. However, Butte County wants us to evacuate to the north, into the Palermo and Oroville areas, at a distance of 10-15 miles. Directly toward a potentially failing dam and floodwater.

Why does Butte County want us to evacuate toward the floodwater? Because they know that the direct route east from here is regularly flooded and closed during the rainy season.

So, instead of fixing 250' of road (some box culverts and fill) they want us to evacuate TOWARD the dam and the flood.

Not doing it.

I doubt Feinstein could even comprehend this in her deteriorated state. Or State.

My sister-in-law was working at the paper at the time. She had just left for a late lunch and had driven maybe 1/2 mile from the building when she heard the explosion and saw the fireball in her rearview mirror. She turned around and headed back.

The plane had impacted right in her parking space at the northeast corner of the building. She was freaked out about it for a long time.

Another article, with some incorrect information. The woman on the ground who was killed was not an employee. She was a subscriber to the paper who had just paid her bill and was walking out of the office
